Seasonal Animal Keeper

The Cape May County Zoo is accepting applications for Seasonal Animal Keepers. This is a 6-month seasonal position, requiring a commitment of 40 hours per week. Qualified candidates must be team-oriented, with strong observational, written, and oral communication skills, accurate record-keeping abilities, and the ability to adapt to changing situations. Applicants should be willing to work weekdays, weekends, and holidays in various weather conditions while maintaining positive interactions with fellow zoo staff as well as zoo guests.

Key responsibilities for this position include providing daily care for zoo animals, which may involve exhibit cleaning and maintenance, animal observations, safe presentation of enrichment, administering medical treatments under the direction of veterinary staff, using safe disinfecting methods, and engaging with guests in a positive manner.
Experience Required:

  • Minimum of 1 year of college, with progress toward a Bachelor’s degree in biology, zoology, or a related field.
  • Strong interpersonal skills, the ability to accept direction, and the capacity to work well as part of a team.
  • Ability to lift a minimum of 50 pounds.
  • Preference will be given to Cape May County residents.

Seasonal Zoo Education Keeper

The Cape May County Zoo Education Department is accepting applications for 6-Month Seasonal Zoo Education Keepers. We are seeking a motivated individual with a passion for education and an upbeat personality. Under the supervision of the Education Supervisor, the Zoo Education Keeper will work alongside the education staff to conduct programs, facilitate animal encounters, guide tour groups through the zoo, and assist with outreach initiatives.

This position also involves daily animal husbandry and care for ambassador animals, creating and implementing animal-safe enrichment, performing basic habitat maintenance, administering medical treatments under the direction of veterinary staff, and ensuring safe disinfecting practices.
Experience Required:

  • Bachelor’s Degree in Zoology, Wildlife Biology, Conservation Education, Zoo Science, Education, or related field.
  • Animal care experience, preferably at an AZA facility.
  • Excellent public speaking, communication skills, creative thinking, and originality.
  • Excellent decision-making skills.
  • Ability to handle and present ambassador animals in a safe, dignified manner.
  • Ability to work 40 hours per week, including weekends and holidays.
  • Ability to work outside in all weather conditions and can lift at least 50 pounds.
  • Must possess a valid driver’s license.
  • Preference will be given to Cape May County residents.
