The Senior Azure Data Engineer is focused on designing and building scalable Azure data pipelines in a performant manner for different data products. This person is accountable for the data management processes being developed according to established standards and best practices.

***This position requires the candidate to work from our one of our office locations (Phoenix, AZ or Dallas, TX), four days a week, with one day remote flexibility. Candidates must be able to consistently commute to the office on the designated in-office days.

What You’ll Do:

Data Architecture and Design (30%)

• Design and implement scalable, efficient, and secure data pipelines to process large volumes of mainly structured data on Azure cloud environment.
• Create and maintain data models, ensuring that data structures are optimized for analytics and reporting needs.
• Define and enforce data architecture best practices and standards across the organization.
• Collaborate with data scientists, analysts, and stakeholders to ensure data is structured in a way that meets business and analytical requirements.

Data Integration and Management (25%)

• Integrate data from multiple sources, such as databases, cloud platforms, and third-party APIs, ensuring consistency and accuracy.
• Build ETL (Extract, Transform, Load) processes using Azure Data Factory, ADLS Gen 2, Syanpse Analytics and Databricks to streamline data movement and transformation for analytics purposes.
• Monitor data quality and consistency, identifying and resolving issues related to data integrity and anomalies.
• Implement data warehousing solutions and manage the optimization of data storage, retrieval, and processing for performance and scalability.

Collaboration and Stakeholder Engagement (30%)

• Work closely with data analysts, and business stakeholders to understand data requirements and translate them into technical solutions.
• Provide technical expertise and guidance in discussions about data governance, data privacy, and regulatory compliance.
• Lead cross-functional teams in implementing complex data initiatives, ensuring data pipelines meet both business and technical objectives.
• Communicate effectively with stakeholders to align on data-related projects, manage expectations, and deliver results within deadlines.

Performance Optimization and Maintenance (15%)

• Continuously monitor and optimize data pipelines for performance, reliability, and cost efficiency in cloud environments (e.g., AWS, GCP, Azure).
• Implement automated monitoring and alerting to track data pipeline health and data quality issues.
• Perform regular data pipeline maintenance and updates, ensuring optimal performance and alignment with evolving business needs.
• Troubleshoot and resolve issues related to data ingestion, transformation, and processing to ensure uninterrupted data flow.

Minimum Qualifications

• Bachelor’s degree in engineering, MIS, or Data & Analytics or equivalent experience.
• 5 years’ experience with data engineering specifically as it relates to Azure enterprise data management including data warehousing, Azure Data Lake Store, Azure Data Factory and Azure Synapse Analytics.
• Strong experience with RDBMS and query language such as T-SQL, PL/SQL, Spark SQL.
