The Network L3 Engineer will serve as the single point of contact for Subway?s Network Operations team, overseeing a diverse and cutting-edge network environment. This role focuses on operational excellence, team coordination, and performance monitoring, ensuring seamless round-the-clock network support. The ideal candidate will have broad knowledge across network technologies but primarily excel as an operational leader and team motivator.
Job Description:
Network Engineer will work remotely to support a large enterprise environment to include all of the network switching and routing. This role will also support (load balancers, VPN and reverse proxy), (DNS, IPAM and DHCP), Palo Alto firewalls.
Perform network configuration management (e.g., document router configuration files, IP addressing schemas)
Perform standard network device logical changes approved by Customer (e.g., IP address change, VLAN change
Perform proactive network optimization and tuning and report these activities and results to Customer during periodic governance meetings or as needed.
Perform daily health checks of overall network performance and provide report to Customer on
Provide standard reports (i.e., LAN capacity, performance (CPU/Memory and LAN Bandwidth), device health and performance) on a scheduled basis for Network Management Services.
Maintain IP addressing schemes, router configurations, and routing tables.
Manage and maintain the current inventory of Network devices
Manage and provide proactive and reactive maintenance on network components.
Manage LAN administration activities (e.g., VLAN, WLAN, Router configuration)
Coordinate network administration activities through the Change Management processes.
Support provisioning and de-provisioning account activities (e.g., network administrative accounts) and maintain associated history logs as required.
Support activities related to Customer-planned or Third-Party planned and unplanned outages (e.g., post-power outage start-up activities, Customer preparedness emergency exercises or Incidents, recovery)
Coordinate with Customer vendors for Out of the band and Internals link-related activities as and when required.
Coordinate with all OEM vendors as and when required
Monitor current network utilization and provide information to Customer for use in determining future capacity requirements.
Perform Incident determination, Alert identification and correlation, and resolution
Monitor managed network devices (e.g., via SNMP) using Customer-provided endpoint monitoring tool.
Perform data centre LAN troubleshooting, including monitoring LAN port switches for servers and interconnectivity between switches and other network devices.
Maintain network documentation that meets Customer requirements.
Key Responsibilities:
Team Leadership:
o Manage a team of four to five engineers, ensuring they are productive, aligned with goals, and focused on delivering results.
o Provide coaching, performance feedback, and professional development opportunities for team members.
o Foster a collaborative team environment that prioritizes efficiency and accountability.
Operational Management:
o Oversee daily network operations, ensuring adherence to service-level agreements (SLAs) and operational standards.
o Monitor and analyze KPIs such as ticket utilization, resolution times, and ticket assignment distribution.
o Conduct regular operational reviews and team meetings to assess and improve performance.
Process Optimization:
o Identify and implement process improvements to enhance efficiency and reduce downtime.
o Ensure documentation of operational procedures and knowledge base content is up-to-date and accessible.
Stakeholder Communication:
o Serve as the primary point of contact for escalations and critical network issues.
o Communicate effectively with leadership, providing regular updates on team performance, operational challenges, and achievements.
Technology Awareness:
o Maintain a high-level understanding of the organization?s network technologies, including SD-WAN, Palo Alto Firewalls, Juniper switches, and Azure/AWS networking.
o Collaborate with engineers to understand technical challenges and propose feasible operational solutions.
Must to Have Skills
Qualifications:
Proven experience in managing network operations teams or similar IT support teams.
Strong leadership and organizational skills, with the ability to keep teams focused and on task.
Familiarity with network technologies and infrastructure, including firewalls, cloud networking, and switching/routing.
Proficient in performance monitoring tools and ticketing systems (e.g., ServiceNow).
Excellent communication skills, with a focus on stakeholder management and team coordination.
Strong analytical skills to evaluate KPIs and drive data-informed decisions.
Preferred Qualifications:
Technical certifications or training in networking (e.g., ITIL, CCNA, or AWS/Azure Fundamentals)
Experience working in a 24/7 network operations environment
The pay range that the employer in good faith reasonably expects to pay for this position is $33.75/hour - $52.73/hour. Our benefits include medical, dental, vision and retirement benefits. Applications will be accepted on an ongoing basis.
