Family Support Assistant
Full Time: 40 Hours/Week
Schedule: 8 am to 4:30 pm, Monday through Friday
Pay Rate: $18.21/Hour
Benefits Package: 1st of the month after 60 days of employment
Location - 1301 Rensen St, Lansing, MI
General Summary
Provides family support services to individuals accessing services through the Financial Literacy Department to promote individual and family independence. This position focuses on (but is not limited to) providing advocacy/referral services to eligible persons with financial literacy needs. Requires the ability to establish and maintain positive working relationships with co-workers and clients.
Job Functions
Provides family support services to individuals seeking services through Capital Area Community Services, Inc. that include needs assessment, direct and referral services, advocacy, and follow-up to assist individuals in meeting basic needs.
Work at various locations as needed within the agency service area(s).
Serves as first contact for incoming phone calls, intake, and assessment.
Determines program eligibility and coordinates client transition to a Financial Capabilities Advisor for case management.
Assists clients with the complexities related to specific assistance applications for needed services.
Assists individuals in the selection of educational enrichment activities to comply with program requirements.
Maintains up-to-date client files, including assessment, direct and referral services, follow-up, and other client contact.
Provides participants with community resource information and explanation of how to access services.
Serves as a role model to guide others along the self-sufficiency continuum.
Works cooperatively as part of the Financial Literacy team to address the needs of the low income population.
Assists with special projects upon request.
Recommended Qualifications
Education
The job requires knowledge normally acquired from specialized training such as that acquired in specialized classes, vocational, trade, or business school with course work in human or social services.
Minimum of a two-year degree required. Relevant, equivalent experience may be accepted in lieu of a degree.
Experience
Minimum of two years' experience in the delivery of direct and information/referral services to the low-income community.
Sensitivity to the needs of others with the ability to encourage and guide others in their quest for independence.
Good oral and written communication skills.
Ability to work with a diverse population in an effective manner.
Advanced computer skills required.
