The Position : Executive Director
The Arc of Davidson County Inc. is seeking an Executive Director to oversee the organization and its 48 staff who support people with intellectual disabilities so they can live the lives they choose. The Executive Directors primary role is to inspire the organization to achieve its mission by leading and managing with their peoplefirst values of equity community selfdetermination and diversity.

- Five direct reports : Director of Residential Services Director of NonResidential Services Director of Human Resources Bookkeeper and Office Manager
Essential Duties & Responsibilities
Leadership :
Participate with the Board of Directors in developing a vision and strategic plan to guide the organizationIdentify assess and inform the Board of Directors of internal and external issues that affect the organizationAct as a professional advisor to the Board of Directors on all aspects of the organizations activitiesFoster effective teamwork between the Board and the ED and between the ED and staffIn addition to the Chair of the Board act as a spokesperson for the organizationRepresent the organization at community events to enhance the organizations community profileOperational planning and management :
Develop an operational plan which incorporates goals and objectives that work towards the strategic direction of the organizationEnsure that the operation of the organization meets the expectations of the clients Board and fundersDraft policies for Board approval develop implementation procedures and review existing policies annually proposing updates as neededEnsure secure storage and confidentiality of personnel client donor and volunteer filesProgram planning and management :
Oversee the planning implementation and evaluation of programs services and special projects ensuring they align with the organizations mission and Board prioritiesMonitor the daytoday delivery of the programs and services of the organization to maintain or improve qualityHuman resources planning and management :
Determine staffing requirements for organizational management and program deliveryOversee the implementation of the human resources policies procedures and practices including the development of job descriptions for all staffEstablish a positive healthy and safe work environment guided by all appropriate legislation and regulationsRecruit interview and select staff that have the right technical and personal abilities to help further the organizations missionEstablish a performance management system monitor performance conduct annual reviews mentor staff and volunteers and address discipline or terminations using appropriate legal proceduresFinancial planning and management :
Collaborate with the staff and Board (Finance Committee) to prepare the budget and secure funding for operationsResearch funding sources develop fundraising plans write proposals and participate in fundraising activities to increase organizational fundsApprove expenditures within Board authority ensure proper bookkeeping and manage funds according to the approved budget monitoring monthly cash flowCommunity relations / advocacy :
Communicate with stakeholders to keep them informed of the work of the organization and to identify changes in the community served by the organizationEstablish good working relationships and collaborative arrangements with community groups funders politicians and other organizations to help achieve the goals of the organizationRisk management :
Assess and analyze the potential risks to the organizations people (clients staff management volunteers) property finances reputation and public image and implement strategies to mitigate these risksOther :
Complete required training and be available oncall to address emergencies ensuring the health and safety of individuals and staffQualifications :
Educational / Experience Qualifications
35 years of experience working with individuals with intellectual and developmental disabilities.Bachelors degree in business marketing or nonprofit management with 5 years of supervisory experience in the nonprofit communityKnowledge skills and abilities :
Knowledge of leadership and management principles as they relate to nonprofit organizationsKnowledge of all federal and state legislation applicable to nonprofit organizations including employment standards human rights occupational health and safety charities health coverage etc.Knowledge of current community challenges and opportunities relating to the mission of the organizationKnowledge of human resources and financial and project managementProficiency in Microsoft OfficeDesired Competencies :

In office 5 / days a weekThe Executive Director is expected to work a standard work week. Additional evenings weekends and overtime hours will be required to accommodate activities such as Board meetings representing the organization at public events and being available to meet the needs of the individuals being served.Additional Information :
