Job Summary
Our Director of Technology is responsible for insuring all corporate tele-communications and totalizator systems are installed properly and in good working order for the purpose of disseminating/broadcasting races from various tracks and facilitating the placing of wagers at all Capital OTB branch facilities, E-Z Bet locations and internal corporate offices. The position is responsible for the entire design and operation of the internal telephone system and for the totalizator data network used for the transmittal of wagers
Duties and Responsibilities
- Attendance at various meetings as requested by the Board of Directors or the President/CEO of the Corporation.
- Responsible for the overall functions, operations and systems of Communications/Information Technology and Totalizator System for Capital OTB.
- Supervises and coordinates activities and employees related to the day-to-day operations and responses to work orders, technology issues and service requests.
- Responsible for staff training, support and direction regarding satellite installations, tele-communication equipment for transmitting of wagers and overall tele-communications and data network of Capital OTB and the administrative telephone system.
- Responsible for maintenance of and planning for future technical needs and developing effective solutions.
- Establishes processes and requirements for computer and telecommunications systems, including stakeholder participation, specifications and business process analysis documentation, budget development, oversight of procurement processes, and assurance of sound implementation plans for the Communication Department.
- Responsible for scheduled routine maintenance and preventive maintenance of communications equipment.
- Design, build and implement systems for all corporate area needs for communications, including working with the tote company for specifications and requirements.
- 15 years’ experience in negotiating corporate tele-communication and service contracts.
- Assist in the preparation of public bids for communication services and supplies.
- Provide technical support for: satellite, cable television, Tote Company, PA and telephone systems.
- Provide engineering for operations, systems and on site/off-site systems service, technical support and troubleshooting, including the Television and Telephone departments.
- Install all television equipment and systems in branch and E-Z Bet facilities.
- On-call, seven days per week, 24 hours per day.
- Manage; servers using VMWare and the VSphere Client, equipment and service contracts, software and subscriptions, cyber security, spam and web filtering, new users, active directory, MS exchange, and monitoring of servers.
- Responsibilities extend to all the above activities but are not limited to the above list.
Education and Experience
- Bachelor’s Degree in Electronic Technology or Communications or related field and/or Associates Degree in Electronic Technology or Communications or related field and/or fifteen (15) years of related experience in Communications/Information Technology or Totalizator Systems. Any equivalent combination of training and experience as defined above.
- Knowledge of Off-Track Betting rules and regulations required.
- Comprehensive knowledge of the purposes, principles, terminology and practices employed in a large, centralized information technology organization
- Thorough knowledge of; installing and maintaining television equipment, systems and totalizator systems for OTB branch and E-Z Bet locations, end user computer equipment to facilities and administration, computer hardware and software including its capabilities and applications.
- Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with officials and department heads.
- Ability to plan and supervise the work of professional and technical subordinates in a manner conducive to full performance and high morale.
- Ability to communicate effectively both orally and in writing.
- Knowledge of New York State Competitive Bidding process.
- Ability to analyze organizational problems and take corrective action.
- Physical condition commensurate with the demands of the position.
- Possession of a valid NYS driver’s license at time of appointment and for the duration of employment.
