Position Overview
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
- Provides clinical services according to cardiac/ interventional radiology practice standards and acts as a resource to other technologists to ensure optimal patient care and efficient departmental operations.
- Adheres to department policies and protocols to ensure that all studies are optimized for interpretation. Demonstrates patient safety by use of guard rails, breaking mechanisms, shielding, safety straps, and patient monitoring.
- Demonstrates competence in correctly sending images to PACS.
- Demonstrates radiation protection and safety for patients and staff as outlined in department protocols and regulatory guidelines. Helps to maintains radiation exposure reading within the ALARA (As Low As Reasonably Achievable) limits during interventional procedures
- Demonstrates a thorough understanding of radiological principles and theory, anatomy, positioning, and technique for obtaining optimal imaging studies for all utilized modalities.
- Recognizes clinical and emergent problems that may interfere with exams and take appropriate action to resolve them and produce the most desirable outcome.
- Assists physicians during all diagnostic and interventional procedures using standard department protocols, appropriate radiation protection, sterile technique, and infection control practices.
- Ensures equipment is operational and notifies appropriate personnel for service and repair. Proficient with troubleshooting equipment issues during procedures.
- Completes ancillary tasks to ensure efficient and consistent departmental operations. Identifies correctly patients and files to ensure a high degree of accuracy. Enters written and electronic data accurately in comments to provide all pertinent data to Interventionalist to assist in the interpretation of imaging studies.
- Demonstrates willingness to assist co-workers during periods of heightened patient care activity, be adaptive to changing department needs. Rotates across both campuses as needed.
- Ensures the accurate patient identification, collection, transferring, labeling, and transporting of lab specimens that are collected during interventional procedures
- Operates specialized equipment, handles medications, aids in observation and monitoring of acute cardiac patient care.
- Enters written and electronic data accurately, collects and documents all pertinent data into the NJ state database/ registries
- Performs and review all case billing through hospital information systems and works with management and finance to ensure all billing and charge codes are up to date.
- Manages and orders department inventory ensuring all required supplies are available and that stock expiration is closely monitored.
- Displays participation in unit and hospital data collections and committees. Supports the pre procedure review of clinical information and works with department rep to ensure accurate authorizations, approval, billing, and charge capture.
- Education: Graduation from accredited school of radiological technology. ARRT registered. VI or CI certification preferred. Bachelor's degree preferred.
- Experience: No previous experience required. Two years of experience including sterile technique, wire management, and procedure knowledge within an interventional or surgical setting preferred.
- Other Credentials: AHA ACLS-Adv Cardiac Life Supp, AHA BLS - Healthcare Provider,Diagnostic Radiography License
- Knowledge and Skills:
- Special Training: Basic computer skills with knowledge of PACS. Knowledge of procedural devices, implants, cardiac mapping systems, and sterile technique
- Mental, Behavioral and Emotional Abilities: Effective verbal communication skills.
