SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

Performs various cardiac and pulmonary diagnostic testing procedures in order to provide physician with accurate and high-quality studies. Assists with Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FFB) in order to provide pulmonary physician with accurate and quality studies. Completes all ancillary and clerical tasks to ensure efficient and compliant hospital operations.

SUMMARY (BASIC PURPOSE OF THE JOB)

Performs various cardiac and pulmonary diagnostic testing procedures in order to provide physician with accurate and high-quality studies. Assists with Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FFB) in order to provide pulmonary physician with accurate and quality studies. Completes all ancillary and clerical tasks to ensure efficient and compliant hospital operations.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS

Education: High school diploma or equivalent.

Experience: One or more years cardiac diagnostics training in an acute care hospital or cardiologist's office experience.

Other Credentials: AHA BLS. Non-Licensed must obtain before end of orientation period

Knowledge and Skills: Able to operate and read cardiac monitor. Cardiac pacemaker-receiving and holter-scanning computer systems.

Special Training: Certification as a Certified Cardiographic Technician (CCT) or Certified Rhythm Analysis Technician (CRAT). Training in non-invasive cardiac stress testing and electrocardiography.

If set to YES, then this position has the authority (delegated) to hire, terminate, discipline, promote or effectively recommend such to manager.

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS

  • Performs various cardiac and pulmonary diagnostic testing procedures in order to provide physician with accurate and high-quality studies. Assists with Flexible Fiberoptic Bronchoscopy (FFB) in order to provide pulmonary physician with accurate and quality studies.
  • Demonstrates a thorough understanding of cardiac diagnostics principles and theory and anatomy utilizing the most appropriate technique and positioning for optimal examinations.
  • Performs effectively patient preparation for lead placement and cardiac monitor hook-up during stress testing, electrocardiogram, pacer programming, and holter-monitoring. Operates safely all electrical patient testing equipment including treadmill assuring patient safety at all times. Assures patient safety during transfer in and out of wheelchairs, stretchers, and beds.
  • Communicates significant findings to physician and nurse during patient interview, preparation, and during testing procedure. Participates in universal protocol patient identification and time-out as appropriate.
  • Demonstrates proper procedure set-up for FFB in accordance with hospital policy and infection control standards. Participates in universal protocol procedure including patient identification and time-out.
  • Assists physician in technical aspect of performing FFB. Handles brushes, forceps, and other supplies using safe technique as appropriate. Communicates effectively with physician and nurse during procedure.
  • Demonstrates proper lab specimen protocol in regards to handling, packaging and labeling. Completes all associated paperwork related to lab samples and medical record documentation.
  • Demonstrates proper equipment disassembly at end of procedure including cleansing bronchoscope, cleaning all services and replenishing supplies for next procedure. Demonstrates proper processing of bronchoscope utilizing department and infection control practices in both, cleaning, and storing scopes.
  • Logs and charges all procedures performed accurately and routes studies to the appropriate physician for interpretation in a timely manner. Notifies immediately referring physician or nurse with preliminary results upon identification of potentially critical findings or STAT examination.
  • Retrieves patient files for all previously seen patients and combines with accurately labeled paperwork. Assists with other cardiology and pulmonary procedures as appropriate including processing ECG filing and ECG management system.
  • Adheres to department policies and protocols ensuring all examinations are optimized for interpretation.

PHYSICAL DEMANDS AND WORK ENVIRONMENT

Frequent physical demands include: Walking , Carry objects , Push/Pull , Reaching forward , Wrist position deviation , Talk or Hear

Occasional physical demands include: Sitting , Climbing (e.g., stairs or ladders) , Twisting , Bending , Reaching overhead , Squat/kneel/crawl , Pinching/fine motor activities , Keyboard use/repetitive motion

Continuous physical demands include: Standing , Taste or Smell

Lifting Floor to Waist 50 lbs. Lifting Waist Level and Above 10 lbs.

Sensory Requirements include: Very Accurate 20/40, Near Vision, Accurate Far Vision, Minimal Depth Perception, Moderate Hearing

Anticipated Occupational Exposure Risks Include the following: Bloodborne Pathogens , Chemical , Airborne Communicable Disease , Radiation , Uneven Surfaces or Elevations , Dust/Particulate Matter
