Role:
The Vice President (VP) of Philanthropy is responsible for inspiring great gifts of time, talent and treasure to advance the overall mission of Capital Caring Health. Through the identification, cultivation, solicitation and acknowledgement of leadership gifts (individuals, family foundations, corporations) and prospects, the VP of Philanthropy is accountable for the planning, implementation and evaluation of the overall Philanthropy program at Capital Caring Health. The VP of Philanthropy also works in close collaboration and coordination with the Chapters Health Foundation to enhance giving opportunities, relationship management and co-creation of philanthropic strategies.

Supervisory Responsibilities:

The VP of Philanthropy is responsible for supervising corporate relations, planned giving, major gifts, and grants staff.

Experience Requirements:

The VP of Philanthropy must have at least 6 years of management and leadership experience in Philanthropy and a successful fundraising record. Experience in health-specific, aging and community services Philanthropy is preferred.

Education Requirements:

The VP of Philanthropy must have a bachelor’s degree in administration. A master's degree in a related field is preferred.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities:

Leadership:

Collaborates with Philanthropy staff to support account standards that reflect the needs of the Capital Caring Health service area community and ensures program objectives are aligned with Capital Caring Health’s strategic goals. 

Quality Provision of Services:   

Develops short- and long-term goals and strategies with the senior management team for the overall Philanthropy program to support strategic and business goals of Capital Caring Health. Establishes, implements, monitors and evaluates programs and activities to meet goals; documents program and reports to Capital Caring Health senior management and Board of Directors. In concert with the Philanthropy senior staff, plans, coordinates and oversees the implementation of a comprehensive leadership gifts programs (major and planned gifts) and capital and comprehensive campaigns, including: goals and strategies; timelines; volunteers leadership enlistments and support; prospect identification; cultivation, solicitation, and acknowledgement of donors; case statements and solicitation materials; campaign reporting and communications; donor recognition and stewardship; staffing; budgeting; and ongoing monitoring and evaluation.

Identifies prospects for leadership philanthropy of individuals, institutional gifts and grants; develops and carries out cultivation and solicitation strategies.  Consults with team members, donors and their advisers on gift planning opportunities or multiyear grants.

Organization/Regulatory Compliance:

Develops, implements and oversees all aspects of the Philanthropy program in accordance with policies and procedures of the Association of Fundraising Professionals standards. Provides oversight in developing and monitoring major- and planned-giving program budgets and work plans.  Updates and initiates new plans, policies and procedures when needed.  Ensures that proper financial and other regulatory and legal procedures are followed. Serves as the organization-wide fundraising advisor which includes, but is not limited to, follow-up and monitoring of donor inquiries, outreach activities and outcomes. Monitors and implements effective handling and processing of donations to ensure wise stewardship and cost effectiveness of fundraising activities including special events, direct mail, planned gifts, institutional giving, and other aspects of the annual fund.

People/Communications:

Provides leadership to the Philanthropy management team and coordinates and builds relationships with Capital Caring Health board members, community leaders, Executive Directors for each region and other staff and volunteers as appropriate to achieve fund-raising goals. Assures recruitment, organization, guidance and support for volunteer leadership, including campaign and other Philanthropy committees, and other committees and volunteers as assigned; assures optimal utilization of volunteer leadership. As a member of the Capital Caring Health senior leadership team and a member of the I&M team, contributes to organizational creativity, communications and effectiveness, and shares planning and budget responsibilities for its long-term viability. Exhibits respect and provides excellent service to donors, all members of Capital Caring Health staff including volunteers, and the public through prompt, courteous and respectful communication and responsiveness. Maintain professionalism in all departmental activities and outreach and promotes confidentiality of privileged information. Seeks educational and networking opportunities that foster professional growth and Philanthropy. Oversees and directs the donor customer service program which includes, but limited to, coordinating complaints, effective resolution and customer satisfaction. Provides insight and direction in assisting the regions with fundraising and donor related activities. Promotes effective recruitment, selection, retention, training and staff Philanthropy in functions and departments under supervision.  

Financial Stewardship:

Achieves expected productivity standard as defined by the organization and in alignment with best practices and the Capital Caring Health Model. Collaborates with the directors and managers to steward donors in accordance with the Donor Bill of Rights and General Accounting principles. Oversees development of annual budgets, as appropriate, instilling strong financial management discipline and stewardship.

Assures the programs under supervision meet organization needs and budget assumptions. Effectively operates within the approved business model (The Model), and yearly operating plan with appropriate outcomes.
