Position Summary
The Community Development Lending (CDL) intern will provide essential support for community engagement and loan origination activities in Capital Impact's key sectors: affordable housing, healthcare, education, healthy food, aging, and cooperatives. The ideal candidate is passionate about community and economic development, impact investing, racial equity, and social justice.
This is a remote position, preference for California residents. The internship is fulltime and goes from 6/2/2025-8/29/2025.
This role supports the CDL's community outreach, engagement, and marketing efforts by maintaining and tracking relationships with both existing and potential customers. The intern will assist with managing, optimizing and implementing initiatives that foster community relationships, leveraging the Salesforce platform for tracking and management to ensure customer data accuracy, and streamlining customer interactions throughout the origination process like marketing, business development and customer service.
The CDL Intern will support Capital Impact Partners' lending activities and place-based strategy in Los Angeles, Atlanta, and across the country.
Reporting Relationship:
As part of the CDL team, the CDL Intern will work with the Western Region team, including the Regional Director, Senior Loan Officer, Business Development Officers, and other relevant staff in different regions. They will enhance customer engagement by developing key infrastructure within the client base and supporting Capital Impact Partners' lending activities.

The salary range for this position is $18 - $20 an hour and is eligible to work remotely in the state of CA.

Essential Responsibilities
Business Development Support
- Collaborate with deal teams regarding business development strategy, including the identification of potential prospects
- Conduct client and prospect research to support business development efforts
- Identify relevant events, conferences, and professional affiliation groups that align with Capital Impact's community development lending goals
- Compile and maintain a list of key events and networks that can help foster partnerships and drive community engagement
- Create standardized email templates to guide customer engagement
- Maintain New Market Tax Credit (NMTC) application pipeline
- Assist in creating, updating, and maintaining Salesforce contact and event records to ensure data accuracy and support targeted marketing campaigns
- Create standard operating procedures for completing Salesforce Event Tracking form
- Work with the marketing and CDL team to segment contacts appropriately and streamline data for effective outreach
- Overseeing data import, export, and cleansing
- Assist with providing training and support to internal users on how to utilize Salesforce effectively
- Assist with market research projects that support community initiatives, encompassing data analysis and survey design to contribute to the broader community engagement and development efforts
- Conduct research on market trends, consumer behaviors, and competitive landscapes to inform regional strategy development
- Analyze and synthesize findings to help refine strategic initiatives
- Analyze & summarize quarterly market reports from Co-Star and other sources to support place based strategy
- Assist the Western Region team in gathering and organizing due diligence materials to support the screening process to ensure accuracy and completeness of the loan package
- Support the Western Region team by collecting and preparing due diligence materials required for the loan screening process to guarantee the loan package is complete and accurate
- Support in the management, review, and process of loan packages while ensuring compliance with credit and underwriting policies
- Assist with the preparation and analysis of financial information, including annual financial statements, project sources and uses, and cash flow projections
- Support the underwriting process through assisting with due diligence collection and review that will help the team with deal structure, financial modeling, and due diligence criteria
- Maintain NMTC application pipeline
- Compile and summarize NMTC community benefits information and transactional data
- Screen and/or support BDO on NMTC priority projects
- Support NMTC underwriting through assisting with deal structure, financial modeling, and due diligence criteria
- Working towards a Bachelor's degree or Master's degree (or equivalent experience)
- Demonstrated commitment to local communities
- Strong research, analytical, and organizational skills
- Detail-oriented with a proactive attitude towards problem-solving and learning
- Familiarity with financial documents (balance sheets, profit and loss statements)
- Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, PowerPoint, Word) and G-Suite (Google Docs, Sheets)
- Familiarity with Salesforce or CRM platforms is a plus
