The Lillian and Albert Small Capital Jewish Museum is seeking to fill one contracted part-time Museum Educator to join our team at a pivotal time- we recently opened the newest cultural institution in DC. This part-time position is an integral part of our education team and our engagement with the public. Leading tours for adult and school groups of all ages, Museum Educators will lead safe, educational, and memorable experiences at CJM.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Train to be a Museum guide -- learn about the Museum, its collections and exhibitions, along with best practices for museum interpretation.
- Conduct high-quality, engaging tours for adult groups from diverse backgrounds.
- Facilitate School Visit and Field Trip activities, in collaboration with the Education Manager for Schools, Youth, and Family Programs.
- Create a warm, welcoming environment for all visitors.
- Cooperate with other Museum personnel for related logistical support.
Compensation:
This is a part-time, non-exempt position. Museum Educators will receive a rate of $35/hour for 25 hours of training while they prepare and learn to give tours. Then, they will be eligible to pick up tours as they are scheduled for a rate of $50 per adult tour and $75 per field trip. Educators will also be eligible for additional training hours to develop their knowledge and ability.
Qualifications:
- A warm, personable, and charismatic demeanor, with confidence in the face of challenges
- Must be able to interact professionally and respectfully with various personality traits.
- Must be responsible, flexible, and punctual.
- Must be willing to work shifts on some Sundays and weekdays as shifts are scheduled.
- Preferred: Experience working with children, teenagers, and families in an informal education setting
- Commitment to social justice, and educational accessibility and interest in DC History
- BA; MA preferred in Jewish history, American history, DC/urban history, or related field.
About the Capital Jewish Museum:
The Capital Jewish Museum, opened in June 2023, is a new Jewish history and culture museum located at 3rd and F St. NW, Washington, DC, just a block from the National Building Museum, and short walk from Union Station.
