What are the responsibilities and job description for the Analyst, Specialty Underwriter & Portfolio Manager - Investment Research Group position at Capital One - US?
The mission of the Middle Market Banking Investment Research Group is to provide a robust research function that drives sector and deal selection, marketing, and brand awareness to mitigate risk and boost incremental cross-functional sales volume. The IRG functions are part of the Commercial Underwriting and Portfolio Management function, with the primary function of assisting in the evaluation of new lending opportunities through active assessment of market and portfolio risks and opportunities. The IRG functions also works closely with LOB and Capital Markets to help provide investment research on various capital markets activities to inform internal stakeholders, issuers, and investors on market trends and financing options.
Primary responsibilities of the IRG PA role will include:
Assist the current four senior IRG analysts covering the Food and Beverage, Restaurants, Gaming, and Aerospace and Defense sectors with their respective idea generation efforts, which includes among other things: industry analyses; discussion of strategic opportunities; and the identification of potential targets.
Monitor and develop a forward-looking view on industry trends and dynamic to identify emerging opportunities and risks.
Develop and maintain industry-driving metrics and risk-identification tools for various subsectors using a myriad of economic and industry specific data sources .
Support deal-screening, due-diligence, and internal credit-approval processes, including the development of investment theses and underwriting assumptions.
Support IRG efforts in other forums, including, but not limited to quarterly portfolio reviews, segment authorizations and pipeline discussions.
Engage with clients and investor in sharing materials and experiences in the context of deals and sector specific investment strategy.
Basic Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree or Military Experience
Preferred Qualifications:
Bachelor’s Degree in Accounting, Finance, or other relevant fields
At least 2 years of experience in capital markets, institutional research, or investment banking
Previous experience with deal teams or analyst in commercial banking
