Strategic. Creative. Innovative. Driven. This is the type of communicator I'm looking for to fill the role of public information specialist at the Niskayuna Central School District.
The public information specialist, first and foremost, will serve as a strategic advisor to the district superintendent. This is professional public relations work with responsibility for developing and implementing a program of planned and strategic two-way communication, which also includes publicizing and distributing information about school district news, events, programs, services and facilities. Employees in this class maintain close contact and cooperate with policy-making officials, school staff, local media representatives and the public.
In this role, you will provide sound guidance, strategy, writing and support to shape your clients’ internal and external messages. You will work side-by-side with the digital content specialist to support the district's communications needs and expectations. The public information specialist and digital content specialist handle different responsibilities while working simultaneously to build and enhance the brand.
You’ll do this by:
- Understanding the needs of your clients and supporting their goals through the development and execution of a strategic communications plan.
- Serving as the subject matter expert, working directly with the superintendent and other central and building level administrators to understand their communication goals and provide recommendations on how to meet those goals.
- Possessing the critical thinking skills to effectively develop and deliver messaging that reflects and respects honest, transparent communication to maintain credibility, preserve reputation and strengthen trust with various stakeholder groups.
- Using your public relations skills—applying strategy, creativity and knowledge of audience expectations—to develop content that relates to the district's brand, effectively reaches your intended stakeholders and reinforces your client's missions.

What you bring to our team:
- College Degree with 2 to 4 years of paid experience in modern journalism, public relations and/or strategic communications

- Excellent customer service skills and an ability to build relationships with various internal and external stakeholders
