What are the responsibilities and job description for the Regional Transportation Safety Assistant position at Capital Region Planning Commission?
The Regional Transportation Safety Assistant works under the direct supervision of the Regional Transportation Safety Coordinator. The Regional Transportation Safety Assistant will provide quality administrative support to the Regional Transportation Safety Coordinator on a part-time basis, 20-2! hours per week. Must possess a high school diploma/GED. The transportation safety assistant will receive on the job training to gather work experience and be exposed to the transportation safety field. Areas of responsibility will include impaired driving, distracted driving, occupant protection (seat belt safety), young drivers, bike and pedestrian safety, and infrastructure & operations.

General Job Responsibilities:
- Records, drafts, and distributes meeting minutes of all safety coalition related meetings as approved by the Regional Transportation Safety Coordinator.
- Create Newsletters monthly for safety coalition and other graphics requested using Canva, and other platforms.
- Assist in keeping records of major safety planning documents, workshop literature, safety-related meeting agenda and minutes, pertinent correspondences, grant reporting files and other documents necessary for accounting and auditing purposes.
- Assist in writing/editing/publishing press releases and newsletters to major stakeholders, media, safety partners and the public to keep everyone up to date with past, present, and future programs in our region.
- Coordinate and/or assist partners in circulating valuable information through the use of tri-media (radio/TV/newspaper) and social media such as Facebook and Twitter.
- Research and review professional literature, laws, regulations, and guidelines related to planning initiatives; attend relevant conferences; workshops, and professional development seminars and webinars.
- Other duties as assigned.
Competences:
The Regional Transportation Safety Assistant must be able to operate basic office equipment. Employee should be proficient with the use of Microsoft Office Suite (Excel, Word, PowerPoint, and Outlook), have graphics experience-creating detailed safety messaging or able to learn basic skills to create safety graphics and newsletters, plus the ability to quickly learn other applicable systems. Good data entry skills are required and accuracy to detail is very important. Additional clerical duties such as scanning, copying, and faxing are required. Must have excellent communication and organizational skills. Must be able to manage time appropriately with little to no oversight. Must be able to effectively engage and communicate with high level decision makers such as elected and appointed officials, and corporate executives. Candidate must possess reliable transportation since travel is required for meetings and events within Capital Region parishes. Those parishes include East and West Baton Rouge, East and West Feliciana, Ascension, Livingston, Pointe Coupee, and Iberville. The candidate must have a flexible schedule.
Morning and afternoon availability required between 8 am and 3 pm.
WORK ENVIRONMENT:
The duties of this position are typically performed in a professional office environment as well as in-person outreach events.

POSITION MEETING REQUIREMENTS:
The incumbent may be required to attend CRPC meetings before, during and after business hours.
