Position Overview
The plant mechanic is responsible for the maintenance, repair, and troubleshooting of all equipment used in the aggregates mining facilities. This role ensures the safe and efficient operation of machinery, minimizes downtime, and contributes to achieving production goals. This individual will possess strong technical knowledge of industrial equipment, excellent problem-solving skills, and a proactive approach to preventative maintenance.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Inspects, diagnoses, and repairs mechanical issues in processing equipment, including crushers, screens, conveyors, and other plant machinery.
- Responsible for performing work that relates to machines, motor and equipment regulation, repair, lubrication, maintenance, dismantling, overhauling, installation and modification of machines, mechanical equipment, motors, water including valves, pumps, motors, and gauges.
- Performs routine preventative maintenance tasks to extend the lifespan of equipment and minimize breakdowns.
- Utilizes various hand tools, welding equipment, and diagnostic instruments to identify and resolve issues.
- Diagnoses equipment malfunctions to determine the root cause of issues.
- Implements appropriate solutions and tests machinery to verify successful repairs.
- Works closely with plant operators and management to identify maintenance needs and prioritize tasks.
- Maintains documentation and ensures all necessary documentation remains up to date.
- Responsible for completing area audits.
- Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
- Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules, and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities
- Must possess experience and knowledge of plant mechanical systems.
- Must possess extensive knowledge in mechanical applications.
Education & Experience
- GED or High School Diploma Required.
- One to two years continuing education at a trade school or university studying mechanics preferred.
- A minimum of one years prior maintenance experience in an aggregate plant environment is required.

- Ability to communicate, listen and understand information presented through spoken words.
- Ability to read and understand information presented in writing.
- Ability to communicate effectively using appropriate interpersonal skills.
- Ability to supervise own work and be self-motivated.
- Ability to work under pressure to solve problems, meet deadlines in performing work in a timely fashion and make decisions regarding maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery.
- Ability to work in a physically challenging and stressful environment; to take direction from supervisor and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
- Ability to understand and follow detailed and technical written and verbal instructions and communicate clearly.
- Ability to abide by company safety policies and procedures and to work safely within a fast-paced environment.
- Ability to occasionally travel (including overnight) up to one (1) week at a time.
