What are the responsibilities and job description for the Quality Control Supervisor - Lab (cement) position at CAPITOL AGGREGATES INC?
The quality control lab supervisor is responsible for ensuring that our cement products meet quality standards and are within company, DOT, and ASTM guidelines. The individual will oversee all aspects of the quality control process, including testing procedures, data analysis, and reporting. The individual is responsible for training employees, assigning work tasks, and ensuring safety within the quality department.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
Responsible for ensuring that employees are trained and follow safety procedures in the lab.
Responsible for assigning work tasks and ensuring work is completed in a timely and adequate manner.
Creates and distributes staffing schedule for the laboratory.
Responsible for employee relations to include the selection, hiring, discipline, termination, promotion, and motivation.
Assumes duties of Quality Control Manager in their absence.
Prepares and maintains monthly, weekly, and daily reports that detail all aspects of the cement manufacturing process.
Inventories all raw material, solid fuels, and finished products.
Prepares and distributes mill test certificates and letters of certification to appropriate parties.
Advises shipping department as to which cement is ready for shipment and which silos to use.
Coordinates with Quarry Supervisor to blend onsite quarry material based on analysis.
Coordinates with production department the grinding schedule and instructions.
Develops and monitors procedures and programs to increase process efficiency, maintain quality of product, improve working conditions, and decrease operating costs to lowest level possible.
Maintains testing equipment within the laboratory to assure accurate results.
Responsible for the protection of personnel and equipment and operating the plant within the framework of the plant environmental permit requirements, in a safe and efficient manner, as to maximize production and profitability.
Responsible for completing area audits.
Always maintains work area and equipment in a safe and clean condition.
Responsible for abiding by and supporting all company and plant safety policies, rules and procedures as well as M.S.H.A regulations.

Required Skills and Abilities
Knowledge of ASTM test procedures and standards for cement.
Knowledge of quarry/mining operation activity/processes
Broad knowledge of individual pieces of testing equipment and machines.
Strong analytical skills utilizing spreadsheets, other computer programs and other tools to support continuous improvement manufacturing.
Education & Experience
Successful completion of high school or GED certificate.
A college degree in Chemistry, Material Science or Engineering is required.
1 to 3 years of cement process engineering, ASTM quality control testing or similar material quality control testing preferred.

Ability to work and perform tasks at heights from 1 to 60 feet from the ground while utilizing a personal fall arrest harness and lanyard.
Ability to work on stairs, ladders, raised platforms, flat and angled surfaces at varying heights.
Capable of speaking, sitting, standing, walking, kneeling, carrying, pushing, pulling, balancing, climbing ladder and stairs, bending, stooping, squatting, twisting, crawling, reaching, handling, grasping for periods extending to twelve (12) hours per day.
