General Summary
Primary responsibility is preparing raw and finish mill equipment for the blending and grinding of materials.
Principal Duties and Accountabilities (Essential Functions)
- Inspect and operates raw and finish mill equipment and machines for the blending and grinding of materials as advised by Control Room. Inspects and operates milling systems from (remote) Control Room.
- Monitors all equipment functions and checks machinery, motors, transmission guards, conveyors, etc. in accordance with approved operational check lists.
- Maintains contact with Control Room on start-up and during all activities, reporting all malfunctions, defects, and abnormal deviations.
- Communicates with shift foreman, control room and other shifts daily.
- Completes safety and equipment inspection check lists.
- Performs other various duties relating to the movement, processing and storage of materials and the maintenance of equipment and machines as needed, such as assisting mechanics with repairs, cleaning equipment and work areas as needed.
- Learns and understands all Company safety rules, obeying them and using appropriate safety equipment and checks with supervisor if there is a question as to safe procedure; keeps up to date on all changes to safety rules. Must demonstrate commitment to safety of all persons and property by abiding by all safety rules and regulations.
- Immediately reports all unsafe conditions to supervisor.
- Learns all safety features of machinery or vehicles assigned to work on.
- Performs equipment check and maintains a safety and equipment checklist which is to be prepared prior to the daily use of such equipment.
- Conducts area equipment check and updates check sheet during shift.
- Performs other duties as assigned by Leads, Foreman, Supervisors or Management.

Educational Skills and Experience

- High school Diploma or GED preferred.
- Previous experience in cement operations preferred but not required.
- Minimum of one-year on-the-job experience as Systems I and/or II Operator is required.
- Must be capable of performing all duties of the Systems I and II Operator and be able to work independently, at times, making independent decisions.
- Must have acquired full competency in executing all routinely established tasks requiring demonstrable knowledge of all equipment and machinery and an understanding of the secondary crushing, raw and finish systems, coke/coal system and their relationship to the cement making process.
Other Qualifications:
- Knowledge of hand tools required.
- Must possess mechanical aptitude and previous experience operating heavy equipment.
- Must possess ability to communicate and to establish and maintain effective working relationships with supervisors and co-workers.
- Ability to understand and follow supervisor’s instructions, safety rules and regulations, equipment operating instructions and danger notices.
- Must be able to exercise common sense in the operation and safety of all equipment, machinery and vehicles; to work under pressure to solve problems, meet deadlines in performing work in a timely fashion.
- Must be able to make decisions regarding maintenance and servicing of equipment and machinery; to recognize unusual situations deviating from prescribed routine and take appropriate action.
- Must be able to work as part of a team, as well as to complete assigned tasks independently with little direct supervision; to work in a physically challenging and sometimes stressful environment; to take direction from supervisor and to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
