The Gallery Assistant plays a vital role in overseeing all the Gallery operations at Capizzo. This part-time position involves research and preparation for exhibitions and acquisitions, drafting and editing content, maintaining files, providing general administrative support to the owner.
You will oversee the day to day operations of the Gallery with an eye toward growth and expansion of sales and private events. You will collaborate closely with the owner and have a lot of responsibility and freedom to execute the vision for the gallery.
This is an excellent and rewarding job if you are a ambitious, motivated person who is capable of being a jack-of-all trades sort. You will have to be comfortable working independently.
To be successful you'll need a combination of artistic awareness, business acumen, technology skills, ambition, interpersonal skills and practical abilities.
You'll have responsibility for the day to day operations of the businesses, sales and marketing areas of the gallery and will communicate directly with artists and dealers under the direction of the owner.
You'll be involved in selecting art and artists to enhance the gallery's reputation and to bring in money from the sales of their artwork.
You will be coordinating Events for outside renters using the space for private events.
Because this is a smaller private gallery you will have a more varied and all-round role.
Day-to-day tasks vary but you'll typically need to:
* ensure the smooth running of the gallery, working the "floor"
* promotion, advertising and Social Media
* work closely with artists, develop relationships with new artists
* work with outside contractors to develop and update the gallery marketing i.e.: social media, website
* promote and sell artists' work, through both exhibitions, personal contacts, and electronic means.
* General administration, bill paying, inventory, cleaning, day to day operation.
Hours will vary depending upon current needs. Most weekends and holidays will be required during the season.
Off season hours, Nov-April, are possible for a limited number of team members.
