WHO WE'RE LOOKING FOR
The Vice President, Governmental Affairs reports directly to the Deputy, CEO. This position is responsible for developing and delivering the organization's strategic approach to federal, state, regional and local government relations, including a comprehensive legislative, federal grant, and communications strategy to support CapMetro initiatives. Serves as the chief liaison to public officials and entities, representing CapMetro's interests at public / government meetings and with stakeholders throughout the region.
Responsibilities
WHAT YOU'LL BE DOING
- Develop and implement an integrated government relations strategy to communicate support for and deliver a strategy for promoting a comprehensive regional transit vision inside and outside the CapMetro service area.
- Lead the development and execution of plans and efforts that support legislative programs, policy initiatives and funding opportunities to achieve business objectives by collaborating with internal staff, involving external stakeholders such as area officials, business leaders, community organizations and leaders, board members, legislative staff and members.
- Develop strong working relationships with elected and appointed officials and staff throughout all levels of government and industry partners like APTA, etc in furtherance of CapMetro objectives.
- Forge partnerships and build coalitions with external stakeholders in support of CapMetro projects, programs, goals, or legislation at the federal level, including Project Connect.
- Advise the President & CEO on a wide variety of sensitive internal and external issues impacting intergovernmental and stakeholder relations, and on legislative and policy implications of legislative actions and positions.
- Serve as the principal government relations representative, including at legislative and executive branch meetings and hearings, and meetings with officials from other governmental entities. Conduct briefings for elected officials and community organizations.
- Ensure that stakeholders and elected officials have the opportunity to provide input regarding programs and initiatives prior to key milestone decisions being made as part of the agency's larger public involvement efforts.
- Direct the selection process, work program and activities of government and public relations consultants.
- Direct and oversee government affairs staff on execution of strategy and constituent relations.
- Coordinate with Community Engagement in efforts to increase public and community support for public transportation and efforts to meet the growing and diverse demand of our region's mobility needs.
- Direct the development of fact sheets, reports, legislative and policy analysis, and public information materials.
- Provide strategy for public / media relations as it pertains to government and legislative meetings, positions, and activities.
- Provide strategic input on briefing materials, speeches / speaking points and presentations for leadership and the Board of Directors.
- Support Capital Metropolitan Transportation Authority's Safety Management Systems (SMS) process by ensuring staff follows safety and security policies, considers safety in every action, and ensures safety and security concerns are reported.
- Perform other duties as required and / or assigned.
RESPONSIBILITIES - SUPERVISOR AND / OR LEADERSHIP EXERCISED :
Direct and manage department personnel by planning, scheduling, delegating, and overseeing employee work assignments, authorizing, coordinating, and scheduling work with vendors and consultants, conducting personnel actions, including, hiring and interviewing, and overseeing hiring, training, work assignments, and performance evaluations.
