GENERAL DESCRIPTION
Performs highly complex (senior-level) technical accounting support work. Work involves performing detailed assignments in recording, classifying, examining, and verifying financial records, documents, or reports. Works under limited supervision with considerable latitude for the use of initiative and independent judgement. May be required to work in excess of 40 hours per work week.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS
Classifies, codes, posts, and balances financial accounting documents and records.
Compiles statistical, financial, accounting, or auditing reports and tables pertaining to cash receipts, expenditures, and accounts payable and receivable.
Calculates, prepares, and issues bills, invoices, account statements, and other financial statements according to established procedures.
Computes, analyzes, prepares, and processes purchase or travel vouchers.
Prepares payment, cash, general journal, and related vouchers.
Assists with researching and reconciling discrepancies in accounts, bank statements, or appropriation balances; and reports findings.
Assists with the the financial reports and reconciliation's of open PO's report.
Assists with tracking invoices to ensure payments are made.
Distributes payroll checks on designated days.
May perform financial calculations such as amounts due, interest charges, balances, discounts, equity, and principal.
May audit and approve invoices and statements
May receive cash, prepare deposit slips, and maintain cash control records, and disburse petty cash as well as prepare and disburse checks for travel advance and revolving fund.
May assist in monitoring the budget as well as training staff on travel policy and procedure and how to enter requisitions into CAPPS
At facilities with no operating warehouse (GNS, BWD, and GID) this position is responsible for accepting outside packages which are delivered to the facilities on a daily basis. This entails physically unloading most packages from delivery trucks and taking them into the facility receiving area, checking that the items match what was ordered on the PO, receiving the items into the CAPPS accounting system and notifying the requestor that the items have been received.
Performs a variety of related duties not listed, to be determined and assigned as needed.
This position is required to travel less than 5% of the time.
Performs all duties in compliance with agency safety policies and procedures :
Attends work on a regular and predictable schedule in accordance with agency attendance and leave policies.
Expected to have an understanding of TJJD's treatment programs for the youth including Texas Model 2.0 and be able to evaluate application of the Model by TJJD staff when visiting / auditing facilities and locations where youth are supervised.
Qualifications :
MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS
High School diploma or equivalent. Three years of full-time wage earning experience in bookkeeping, accounting, finance, or payroll.
