What are the responsibilities and job description for the Director of Accounting Operations position at CAPPS LLC?
Reporting to the Chief Financial Officer, the Director of Accounting Operations is responsible for reporting to and advising the Chief Financial Officer on matters related to accounting operations of the firm. This includes oversight of accounting operational staff, reporting, development, and oversight of effective controls. Streamlining process and driving towards improvement are key components of this position.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
- Oversee, direct, and organize the work of the accounting operational teams (Payment Processing, Remits, Cost Posting) including training where necessary, ensuring effective controls exist and are followed.
- Ensure consumer payments are posted timely and accurately, meeting all Firm and Client requirements. Validate consumer refunds are issued timely and accurately. Work with Payment Processing team to streamline and improve processes.
- Ensure accurate and timely financial reporting to clients of their transactions (payments and costs) and timely remittance of funds. Oversee, review, and release daily wires for client remittance payments. Work with the remittance team to streamline and improve processes.
- Ensure accuracy of financial recording of transactions related to Payment Processing and Remittance. Ensure trust accounts balances within QuickBooks reflect timely posting of entries and accurate balances. Review trust account balances at the bank in relation to internal QuickBooks balances.
- Ensure consumer costs are recorded timely and accurately. Validate posting of costs paid via credit card against credit card statements, to ensure all transactions are recorded. Work with the Cost Posting team to streamline and improve processes.
- In conjunction with the Finance team, coordinate with firm’s Audit and Compliance team on all internal and client audits including deliverables, audit responses, and remediation.
- Represent the accounting department in client meetings, including meetings on audit, accounting operations, problem solving and/or new initiatives.
- Ensure compliance with state and federal tax laws and regulations, as well as industry and client standards and regulations.

Education and Experience:
Requires a bachelor’s degree in accounting or finance, plus 5-8 years of experience in accounting or finance. Must have knowledge of all aspects of generally accepted accounting principles and maintain knowledge through ongoing research and education. Prior team management experience and the ability to develop a high performing team are required. Must demonstrate leadership skills and ability to work with Senior Level Executives, Clients, and other Departments leaders. Strong analytical and computation skills as well as demonstrated critical thinking and problem-solving skills are a must.
