We are seeking a detail-oriented and motivated Junior Attorney to join our legal team at CAPREIT, a leading multifamily real estate owner/operator. This role is ideal for a recent law school graduate or an attorney with 1-3 years of experience who is eager to contribute to the legal aspects of a fast-paced and dynamic real estate environment. Reporting to the General Counsel, the Junior Attorney will assist in managing legal and regulatory matters, ensuring compliance, and supporting various real estate transactions.

CAPREIT is co-headquartered between Rockville, MD and Philadelphia, PA. The General Counsel is based out of the Rockville office. Since this position will work alongside the General Counsel, it would be ideal if this person was based in the Washington, DC area and/or could easily be in that office on a frequent basis.
Compensation and CAPREIT Benefits
- $85,000- $100,000/YR

Responsibilities
Key Responsibilities:
· Real Estate Transactions: Assist with drafting, reviewing, and negotiating purchase and sale agreements, leases, loan documents, and other contracts related to multifamily real estate acquisitions, dispositions, and development projects.
· Due Diligence: Conduct title reviews, survey analysis, and zoning investigations; coordinate with external parties, including title companies, lenders, and local government agencies, to resolve issues.
· Corporate Governance: Support corporate compliance by drafting resolutions, maintaining entity records, and ensuring regulatory filings are current.
· Regulatory Compliance: Monitor and ensure compliance with federal, state, and local laws related to multifamily properties, including landlord-tenant regulations, fair housing laws, and environmental standards.
· Litigation Support: Collaborate with outside counsel on litigation matters, including reviewing pleadings, managing discovery, and supporting settlement negotiations.
· Internal Support: Provide legal guidance to the property management, investments, and construction teams on day-to-day operational issues and strategies.
· Risk Management: Identify and mitigate legal risks associated with business operations and transactions.
Qualifications
Qualifications:
· Juris Doctor (J.D.) degree from an accredited law school
· Active bar admission in Maryland, Virginia or Washington, D.C. or eligibility for admission
· 1-3 years of experience in real estate law, preferably with a focus on multifamily properties or commercial real estate
· Strong understanding of real estate contracts, leasing, and transaction structures
· Exceptional research, writing, and communication skills
· Detail-oriented with the ability to manage multiple projects and deadlines in a fast-paced environment
· Proficiency in Microsoft Office Suite and legal research platforms
Preferred Skills:
· Familiarity with landlord-tenant law and fair housing regulations
· Experience working in or with real estate development or property management companies
· Exposure to corporate law or finance as it relates to real estate transactions
