About the Role
We are seeking a Data Engineer, Biostatistics & Bioinformatics to join our Biostatistics & Bioinformatics group in San Diego, US. In this role, you will support research and development initiatives by designing and implementing enhanced data management solutions. You will consolidate existing internal data systems into a centralized platform, develop robust databases for manufacturing and quality control data, and automate reporting workflows. This position emphasizes seamless integration with existing tools, ensuring data integrity, and maintaining compliance with GMP and regulatory standards, contributing directly to Capricor’s mission of advancing transformative therapies.
Responsibilities:
- Develop, validate, and maintain internal data management solutions aligned with FDA, GMP, GAMP, and other regulatory requirements.
- Ensure secure, compliant, and reliable data systems by adhering to data privacy policies and industry best practices.
- Perform data validation, quality checks, and troubleshooting to maintain data accuracy, integrity, and reliability.
- Collaborate with QA teams to verify system updates and ensure adherence to regulatory standards.
- Plan and implement strategies to modernize and centralize legacy systems into unified data platforms.
- Extract, transform, and load (ETL) data between source systems, LIMS, and databases, ensuring accuracy and consistency across SQL and NoSQL environments.
- Troubleshoot integration issues and resolve performance bottlenecks in internal systems.
- Maintain and improve tools for quality control (QC) testing and Statistical Process Control (SPC) reporting to enhance process monitoring and analytics.
- Design and develop user-friendly dashboards and reporting solutions using Tableau, Dash, and Power BI.
- Automate data workflows and identify enhancements to improve system performance, data processes, and reporting capabilities.
- Build integrations with existing tools to streamline processes and ensure data consistency across platforms.
- Other responsibilities as assigned related to data engineering and bioinformatics support.
Requirements:
- Master’s degree in computer science, data engineering, or a related field with 1 years of experience; or Bachelor’s degree in a relevant field with 5 years of experience.
- Experience in Linux-based HPC and/or cloud computing environments, along with associated tools (e.g., AWS, Google Cloud Platform, Microsoft Azure).
- Proven experience in designing and maintaining databases.
- Strong experience with SQL and Python for data management and analytics.
- Proficiency in dashboard development and maintenance (e.g., Tableau, Dash).
- Excellent communication skills, including writing detailed reports, crafting professional business emails, and delivering clear and concise presentations.
- Proven ability to perform essential duties independently or with minimal supervision.
- Familiarity with GMP environments and regulatory standards.
- Authorization to work in the United States without the need for sponsorship.
Preferred Skills:
- 1 years of experience in the biopharmaceutical or regulated industries, preferably within GMP or QC environments.
- Understanding of statistical process control and its use in process monitoring.
- Familiarity with Microsoft tools such as Power Apps, Power Fabric, Power BI, and SharePoint for managing data.
- Knowledge of distributed processing frameworks and NoSQL databases.
- Proficiency in HTML and data visualization methods.
- Strong problem-solving abilities with a proactive mindset for process improvements.
- Experience with bioinformatics workflows or omics data management might be beneficial in a broader R&D context at Capricor.
Compensation (USD): $80,000 - $120,000
- This role offers a competitive salary based on experience and qualifications. Additional benefits include health/dental/vision insurance, paid time off, parental leave, 401k retirement plan, company stock options, and bonus eligibility.
Location Policy:
This position is based at our headquarters in San Diego, California, with flexibility for occasional remote work as needed.
