What are the responsibilities and job description for the Direct Support Professional position at Caprock Behavioral Services?
Caprock Behavioral Services is designed to support and educate individuals utilizing an individualistic approach in developing appropriate behavior, improving relationships, and developing independent life skills.
Seeking Part Time position within a 3 bed PCA residential setting (Small group home) and/or day program site for adults with developmental disabilities who have various behavioral challenges. Individuals within the Caprock program have varying involvement with the legal system based on these behavior challenges.
Direct Support Staff (DSP) are responsible for assisting individuals with daily needs and providing direct supervision. Applicants must be willing to work overnight shifts. Each shift includes an overnight component in either a 24 hour or 48 hour block. (Example: Monday 8am- Tuesday 8am or Monday 8am- Wednesday 8am)
Responsibilities include but are not limited to;
Transportation, attending medical appointments, assisting in academic or vocational skills training, supervising individuals within the community and while working, medication administration, assistance in preparing meals, offering behavioral support, financial assistance i.e. budgeting and money management, promoting rights and advocating for individual's, in home overnight support. Staff must be available to respond to individuals needs and wake up to facility alarms regardless of the time of day.
Candidates must posses the desire to make a difference in the lives of others and helping individuals with developmental disabilities. Candidate must have the ability to work with challenging behaviors and respond quickly and calmly in times of crisis. Candidate must posses problem solving skills and be able to make sound judgments independently. Candidate must be able to set professional boundaries with clients and staff and have the ability to communicate effectively. Candidate must be computer literate and have the skills needed to ensure daily documentation is maintained for clients. Candidate must be responsible, self motivated, and capable of working independently.
Candidates must be 21 years or older and possess a valid Colorado driver’s license and acceptable driving record. Candidate must be willing to submit to a criminal background check and pass a drug test. All applicants are required to have a high school diploma or equivalent. Previous experience working with individuals with developmental disabilities preferred. First Aid/CPR certification, CPI, and Qmap certification is preferred but not required, training will be provided by Caprock. Must be available for nights and weekend shifts.
