Job Overview
We are building an innovative robotic platform that enables clinicians to precisely control the transcatheter deployment of a cardiovascular valve through a user-friendly robotic interface. As a key member of our team, you will envision and develop the algorithms and software that make this technology possible.
Responsibilities:
- Translate clinical and user needs into design requirements and implement practical control algorithms and software designs.
- Develop algorithms that translate high-level user commands into precise joint-level commands for motion delivery.
- Lead complex product features from concept to launch, managing requirements, design, software implementation, testing, and release processes.
- Participate in prototype development, testing, and pre-clinical lab use.
- Mentor junior engineers and peers to build a strong engineering culture within the team.
- Document work through design reviews and released documents as part of the product development process.
- Identify gaps and contribute solutions to ensure team goals are met.
Skills Desired:
- Strong analytical and problem-solving skills.
- Debugging skills and experience integrating hardware, software, and algorithms for safety-critical systems.
- Python programming skills and knowledge of software development best practices.
- Experience with joint-level control loops, hysteresis compensation, kinematics, sensor fusion, and path planning.
- Excellent communication skills and ability to work in a team environment.
Requirements:
- MS or PhD in robotics-related field, or equivalent work experience.
- For Staff: 9 years of relevant industry plus academia experience (medical device or similar safety-critical system experience preferred).
- For Principal: 15 years of relevant industry plus academia experience (medical device or similar safety-critical system experience preferred).
- Ability to work in ambiguity and convert it into tangible outcomes.
- Experience with designing, manufacturing transfer, and shipping software and algorithms for medical devices or similar safety-critical systems.
- Ability to work in a hybrid work environment, working onsite in Santa Cruz on average 3 or more days a week.
