Job Title: Student Maintenance Assistant; Seasonal Employee
Reports To: Assistant Director of Operations
Location: Lumina Communities at Duquesne University
Compensation: $13.00 per hour
Term of Employment: May 1, 2025 – August 25, 2025 and up to 20 hours per week
FLSA Status: Student Non- Exempt
Summary
Lumina Communities, Brottier, McGinley, and St. Martin Hall, located on the campus of Duquesne University located in Pittsburgh, PA is managed by Capstone On-Campus Management (COCM). COCM is responsible for all aspects of operational management for Lumina Communities. Under the direct supervision of the Assistant Director of Operations, in collaboration with the Maintenance Team, the Student Maintenance Assistant is responsible for assisting the overall turnover of the apartment complex for Fall occupancy.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities
- Create and maintain a professional workspace.
- Ensures proper safety procedures are followed and Personal Protective Equipment is used.
- Identifies and reports work orders for maintenance needs.
- Complete paperwork and other documentation associated with work orders.
- Organize and complete inventories for Maintenance shop, storage areas, and other locations.
- Assist with accessing and removing tools, supplies, equipment, and other materials from the maintenance areas.
- Assist in escorting and monitoring vendors while on-site providing a service.
- Assist in maintaining the grounds, building common areas, and exterior of the building.
- Assist with apartment repairs and turnover process, including upgrades or replacement of various components.
- Attend all staff meetings and training programs and participate in on-going as needed.
- Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma or general education degree (GED).
- Current Student at Duquesne University.
- Willingness to learn general maintenance tasks.
- Current student at a postsecondary institution.
- Ability to lift up to 35lbs and navigate up and down stairs.
- Demonstrate proficiency in verbal communication.
- Possess strong customer service skills.
- Must have troubleshooting and diagnostic skills.
Time Commitment
Student Maintenance Assistants can work up to 20 hours per week in part-time student work. Office hours occur Monday-Friday 8:30 am-4:30 pm. Typical schedule is three days a week with 6/7 hour shifts each day (schedules have some negotiable times).
