Job Title: Student Summer Maintenance Assistant
Reports to: Assistant Director of Maintenance
Location: First Year Residence Halls at Marshall University in Huntington, WV
Compensation: $10.00 per hour maximum 32-hours a week and housing included
FLSA Status: Student Non-Exempt - Position not eligible for benefits
Summary:
A Student Summer Maintenance Assistant is a Marshall University student position. Each student will be responsible for assisting with the summer turn process for the First Year Residence Halls by performing basic maintenance tasks. This is a summer-only position and the duration of employment will be from Monday, May 12, 2025 – Friday, August 8, 2025. Staff member could be asked to work longer as staffing is needed.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
Perform various maintenance tasks as assigned by the Assistant Director of Maintenance, Director of Operations or his / her designee. Duties will include, but are not limited to:
- Patching and painting of walls, ceilings, doors, etc in resident rooms and common areas
- Moving furniture
- Repairing damaged furniture
- General cleaning of resident rooms and common area
- Cleaning PTAC (HVAC) units
- Stripping and waxing floors
- General landscaping Other tasks as assigned by the AD of Maintenance and/or the Director of Operations
Qualifications:
To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required.
- High school diploma.
- Must be enrolled as a Marshall University student.
- Must be available to work during normal business hours of Monday-Friday 9:30am – 4:00pm.
- Must be a team player. We all must work together as we strive to provide the best possible product for our residents.
- Ability to move and lift up to 50lbs and navigate up and down stairs.

The work environment characteristics described here are representative of those an employee encounters while performing the essential functions of this job. The work environment is mid-to-high paced. The noise level is usually moderate.
All employees are expected to meet the appropriate dress standards for the First Year Residence Halls. Dress code will be provided before start date.

Compensation
A Student Maintenance Assistant is paid at the rate of $10.00 per hour for maximum 32-hours a week and may request to be assigned to a room in Freshman North or Freshman South. Applicants will be required to work minimum of 20 hours each week for employment. Whether or not Student Maintenance Assistants will have a roommate will be at the discretion of the Director of Operations based on the number of workers requesting housing. Student Maintenance Assistants residing in Freshman North or Freshman South will be provided a date they must vacate their room to prepare for fall 2025 move-in.
