What are the responsibilities and job description for the Content Writer and Editor position at CAPTRUST?
WHO are we looking for?
CAPTRUST seeks a Content Writer and Editor to join its growing marketing team. This person will spearhead content creation to support the firm’s editorial strategy, business development efforts, and internal communications. This colleague will be responsible for developing crisp and accurate content for several audiences, including wealth management clients, retirement plan sponsors, retirement plan participants, endowment and foundation leaders, and fellow colleagues.
Approximately 50% of the content creator’s time will be spent drafting content, using artificial intelligence (AI) tools as appropriate. This will include:
- Writing articles for captrust.com
- Crafting social media posts for LinkedIn and Facebook
- Developing copy for sales materials, including slide decks, ads, conference materials, video and podcast descriptions, and article summaries
- Drafting video scripts and storyboards
- Writing biographies for financial advisors and executives
The remaining 50% will be spent editing, updating, and proofreading existing content. This will include:
- Editing and proofreading content for VESTED, CAPTRUST’s proprietary magazine
- Bringing existing materials up to CAPTRUST writing standards
- Optimizing content descriptions for social media platforms and email newsletters
- Integrating SEO keywords into existing content
- Monitoring and updating captrust.com and captrustatwork.com articles for outdated information
The portion of time spent on these categories will fluctuate. The candidate will be asked to participate in projects beyond those listed. They will also be encouraged to pursue peripheral projects within the firm that present meaningful growth opportunities. Learning, following, and enforcing the CAPTRUST style guide is a critical part of this role. This style guide is based on the Chicago Manual of Style (CMOS), with deviations.
Minimum Qualifications/Skills:
- Associates degree, Bachelors degree or (equivalent) in English, Journalism, Technical Writing, Marketing, or similar degree
- 2 to 3 years' experience writing print and web marketing and thought leadership content, internal communications, and market commentary
Desired Qualifications/Skills:
- Familiarity with CMOS is a plus
- Experience with AI writing assistants, such as Claude or ChatGPT, web content management (WordPress), and related technology platforms is also a plus
