The Facilities Manager is pivotal in building a team to manage the creation and operation of the Mobile Navy Shipyard, and is responsible for overseeing the maintenance, repair, and efficient operation of all facilities and infrastructure at the shipyard. This includes buildings, utilities, equipment, and grounds. The ideal candidate will ensure that the shipyard's facilities meet safety, operational, and regulatory standards, supporting the production and maintenance activities of the shipyard.
Key Responsibilities :
Mobile Naval Shipyard (MNY)
Manages day-to-day operations of the shipyard's facilities, including maintenance of buildings, piers, drydock and support systems, utility systems, and equipment
Develops and manages the shipyard wide facilities budget, including forecasting for maintenance, repairs, and capital expenditures
Supervises a team of maintenance technicians, custodians and support staff
Oversees access control to the yard including future construction projects
Interfaces with the Port of Mobile and other agencies as required
Ensures all permits and other government requirements are met or continuing current operations on the yard
Acts as main contact for utilities serving non-leased areas
Oversees any easements on the property and how they impact current activities
Ensures all facilities and equipment comply with health, safety, and environmental regulations
Works with current lessee on access procedures
Alabama Shipyard (ASY) “the lessee”
Acts as main contact for ASY operating on Mobile Naval Yard property
Ensures ASY adheres to lease terms
Takes stock of and maintain assets
Oversees that equipment leased by ASY is adequately maintained / repaired
Ensures the dry dock Alabama is maintained and serviced as stated in the lease
Experience :
Shipyard or ship experience essential, commercial or Navy
Successful oversight of ship / shipyard repair and maintenance activities
Strong knowledge of building systems, maintenance best practices, and safety regulations.
Excellent organizational and multitasking abilities.
Strong problem-solving skills and attention to detail.
Effective communication and leadership skills.
Supervision of maintenance technicians, custodians and support staff
Management of sub-contractors for basic construction projects such parking structures and small offices spaces
Proficient in facilities management software, project management tools and Microsoft Office
Experience working with utilities and large-scale construction companies
Warehouse experience, tracking and securing deliveries
Currently resides in or will relocate to Mobile, Alabama
Education :
Bachelor’s Degree in Facilities Management, Engineering, Industrial Maintenance, or a related field is preferred, however experience would outweigh this
Other certifications applicable to shipyard operations and facilities management such as : Six Sigma, ISO, etc. preferred
Physical Requirements :
Ability to work in a shipyard environment, including exposure to noise, dust, and outdoor conditions
Must be able to walk, stand, and climb for extended periods
Ability to lift up to 50 lbs and perform manual labor as needed
