A day in the life of an Automotive Assistant Service Manager:
- Assist the service manager in supervising, training, and developing technicians.
- Assist with monitoring technician productivity and performance metrics.
- Schedule vehicle repairs with technicians based on qualifications and availability.
- Review repair orders for accuracy and completeness.
- Monitor repair progress, identify potential delays, make necessary recommendations, and seek guidance from service manager as needed or required based on the level of work.
- Provide coaching and feedback to staff as needed.
- Assist with GPS/Parts functionalities within the department and cross-train as needed.
- Maintain accurate service records and documentation.
- Prepare reports and forms for management as necessary.
- Assist with running the shop when service manager is not available.
- Ensure compliance with policies and procedures.
- Follow and communicate proper safety protocols and procedures to technicians.
- Interpersonal communication with managers and coworkers as needed.
- Back up technician (if qualified) and as necessary based on department needs.
- Assist customers as needed and directed by service manager.
- Stay up to date on new vehicle technologies and repair methods and provide suggestions to service manager.
Qualifications/Essential Functions/Requirements:
- At least one state mechanic certification or ASE.
- Automotive technician or mechanic experience.
- High school diploma or equivalent. Automotive education is a plus.
- Valid driver’s license with a good driving record (i.e., ability to drive Company vehicles on/off the lot as needed).
- Experienced/knowledgeable in the automotive field (i.e., mechanical skills and knowledge of mechanical systems).
- Assistant manager, supervisor, or team lead experience.
- Ability to effectively lead and direct a team of 15 technicians as needed.
- Available to work full-time during shop hours (current shop schedule is 7am-5pm Mon-Thurs and 7am-12pm on Fridays).
- Proficient computer skills and ability to learn necessary systems.
- Safety protocol knowledge in shop environment.
- Ensure compliance with Company/departmental policies and procedures.
- Ability to stay organized and detail oriented with necessary paperwork and computer work.
- Effective time management skills to complete daily tasks in a fast paced work environment.
- Customer service and troubleshooting skills.
- Ability to learn GPS/Parts processes and procedures that tie into the Service department.
- Effective team building and interpersonal communication skills.
- Team player to assist with technician duties as qualified to perform.
- Stand and walk for extended periods of time in shop and outside on the lot.
- Ability to lift/push/pull 60 lbs., dexterity, and coordination to perform essential functions.
