JOB TITLE: RESIDENT AIDE
REPORTS TO: CHARGE NURSE
RESPONSIBILITIES: Responsible for assisting residents with Medication Administration, Activities of Daily Living and Housekeeping services in order to enhance the quality of resident life and promote independence and dignity
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:
To assure resident safety.
- Follow Resident Aide assignment task schedule as indicated by Assisted Living manager; this requires the ability to be mentally alert and communicate verbally and in writing information regarding residents’ condition and care
- Must be able to lift, bend, pull, push, kneel, reach and stand for extended periods of time; manual dexterity required performing tasks in assisting residents with their personal needs
- Must be willing to learn standard procedures and test for accurate medication administration
- Must be willing to bathe, shower, shampoo, shave, comb hair, dress residents appropriately, provide proper oral hygiene care by assisting with teeth brushing, provide assistance with denture care, if needed and nail care (routine fingernails and toe nails) of any residents assigned; must be willing and have the ability to tolerate washing hands with soap frequently throughout the day; manual dexterity required performing tasks in assisting residents with their personal needs
- Coordinate meal service delivery, serve meals to residents and clean-up dining room and kitchen after all meals
- Maintain the weekly cleanliness of each resident apartment and assist with laundry, if needed. Maintain the weekly cleanliness of common areas via the assigned housekeeping schedule and task sheet
- Must remain in facility at all times when residents are in facility; the night shift must be immediately available and awake at all times
- Participate in emergency fire or disaster drills and other in-service training as scheduled; must be able to safely ascend and descend stairwells and assist in an evacuation of residents; must ensure safe evacuation of residents in an emergency
- Answer call lights in a timely manner; be alert to residents’ comforts and needs; answer their requests promptly
- Observe all residents and report anything unusual or abnormal via 24-hour documentation report to Assisted Living manager and the on-coming shift; ability to safely care for residents in a patient and respectful manner despite some residents’ lack of cooperation
- Provide a supportive, protective and safe environment for residents; provide care in a kind, compassionate manner and while able to endure continuous stress of caring for residents and working with families, including caring for residents who may be disoriented, irrational, highly agitated and susceptible to abrupt mood swings
- Follow all safety guidelines; safely utilize equipment and report any equipment needing service or repair immediately
- Take vital signs, weight and collect residents’ specimen
- Follow Universal Safety Precautions in order to protect one’s self; residents and other staff members; rinse any soiled linen in preparation to be sent to the laundry; this involves the capability to withstand strong, foul odors and the ability to tolerate wearing necessary personal protective equipment, i.e. masks; willingness and ability to wear, tolerate and use protective clothing and equipment needed in the carrying-out of duties, i.e. latex gloves and hairnets
- Must be capable of maintaining regular attendance in accordance with the facility absentee policies; perform special duties as assigned
- Complete assigned training/in-services on time and/or attend training/in-service classes when scheduled
- Use appropriate work place behavior and adhere to the dress code at all times
- Uses tactful, appropriate communications in sensitive and emotional situations with residents, families and staff
- Promote positive public relations with residents, family members and guests
OTHER DUTIES:
- Performs other duties as assigned
- Encourage residents to maintain their highest possible independence while maintainingtheir resident rights
QUALIFICATIONS:
- High school diploma or equivalent (GED)
- Must be in good standing on the Gross Misconduct Registry
- Ability to understand, remember and carry-out all verbal and written instructions in English; ability to speak clearly and hear well enough to communicate with residents
- Ability to complete assignments while having constant interruptions
- Must be capable of performing the Essential Functions of this job, with or without reasonable accommodation
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
Able to lift 100 pounds, if necessary, to assist fallen resident. Able to lift 25 pounds for routine performance of essential functions

Performs assigned per work schedule which could include weekends, evenings, nights and holidays; non-exempt position
