Job Description
The Purchaser will play a key role in the procurement and supply chain management of goods and services. This full-time position is responsible for sourcing, selecting, and purchasing products that meet company and customer needs while ensuring optimal quality, price, and delivery timelines.
The Purchaser is responsible for maintaining adequate supplies of inventory to meet customer service level expectations while minimizing inventory loss due to spoilage/obsolescence and maintaining turns at an optimal level.
The Purchaser will need to be skilled in negotiating with suppliers, data management, and inventory. To be effective in this role, self-motivation, time management, product knowledge, and excellent communication skills are essential.
Ideal candidates will be process-oriented and have some experience with implementing systems-based solutions. This role requires prior food purchasing experience.
Essential Functions
- Procure all items in assigned categories.
- Collaborate with vendors and brokers to resolve product issues.
- Monitor expiration dates to minimize shrink.
- Maintain relationships with assigned vendors and brokers.
- Consistently communicate order status information to internal teams in a timely manner.
- Interact and communicate verbally and in writing with sales force, customers, and vendors in a timely and informative manner on market conditions, delivery schedules and product information.
- Ensure orders for products are timely and accurate to monitor inventory turns.
- Seek continual improvements to reduce risk and waste.
- Maintain and update purchasing files, including vendor and material specific documentation.
- Review product movement forecasts based on seasonal needs and availability, market trends, and probability of anticipated sales.
- Performs other related duties as necessary or as requested.
Requirements
- Minimum of 5 years of purchasing experience in the foodservice industry.
- Experience with Aplus and Retalix preferred.
- Process-oriented and have some experience with implementing systems-based solutions preferred.
- Demonstrated capacity to successfully complete multiple tasks in a high-volume purchasing environment.
- Excellent follow-through, organizational, and negotiation skills.
- Possess a high degree of diplomacy, tact, tenacity, and persistence to deal effectively with suppliers.
- Capable of working with peers and associates from other departments and shifts in a proactive and constructive manner.
