What are the responsibilities and job description for the Associate Director, Strategy & Insights position at Carat?
The Associate Director of Strategy & Insights plays a key day-to-day role in supporting GM
through an audience-first, people-based marketing approach. They will lead product outputs across business dynamics, cultural societal shifts, audience insights, media trends, creative influences, and tech innovations that inform strong media channel and partnership recommendations. They will be thought leaders in our team’s hybrid offering combining the best of Strategy, Research & Insights and Data Science into an integrated product that advances General Motors’ position as a best-in-class modern marketer that drives to optimal business performance.
This candidate will lead in a brand specific strategic planning process, developing strong relationships with Planning leads, nurturing an indispensability with clients, and maximizing collaboration potential with creative agencies and vendor partners alike. Equal parts art and science will be required for success, with verbal, written and visual communication command needing to be complemented with equal parts comfort in numbers, algorithms, and methodologies. The ideal candidate does not need to be able to answer every question that comes their way but should be able to leverage their ‘consultant’s acumen’ to identify solutions, partners and collaborations that can drive towards an eventual answer.
In the long term, we aspire to see Associate Directors leading disciplines and pioneering product outputs that elevate the overall team. They will be experts with in-depth knowledge and the ability to train other team members in key tools, processes, and methodologies. They will also be expected to be a role model for team culture in celebrating diversity & inclusion and contributing to an environment that team members want to work in.
Bachelor’s Degree and 5 years’ experience in strategy, research, and/or planning –
automotive client experience a plus
- Demonstrated track record of leadership defined as exerting influence from a product,
relationship, and process perspective in previous roles
- Portfolio of past deliverables covering business intelligence, target engineering,
consumer insights, media strategies, vendor ideation, thought leadership
- Success in building 360-degree relationships – with key stakeholders, among peers and
with mentees
- Command of syndicated resources - MRI-Simmons, Kantar Stradegy, Numerator /
Competitrack, YouGov, Nielsen AdViews, eMarketer, Mintel, Forrester, Social Listening
tools (Brandwatch, Buzzsumo, Unmetric) Automotive resources like NVCS, NVAS, J.D.
Power, Polk HIS

Additional Information
The anticipated salary range for this position is $94K-$110K. Salary is based on a range of factors that include relevant experience, knowledge, skills, other job-related qualifications, and geography.
