Position Summary
Responsible for the packaging of manufactured products.
Minimum Requirements
High School Diploma or equivalent.
Must either have forklift certification or have ability to pass forklift certification test.
Steel-toed boots, hard hats, and safety glasses (side shields as needed) are required. A variety of gloves, aprons, respirators, and other PPE are available as needed.
Essential Functions
- Receive the Bill of Materials from the Process Supervisor, the QC Department or the packaging table.
- Verify labels for accuracy. Verification is to include but is not limited to the following:
- Product code
- Lot number
- Unit of measure
- Shelf life
- Locate the required type and quantity of containers and lids. Getting on, driving of and getting off a forklift may be required.
- Containers may be labeled by hand using a glue machine or automatically. Automatic labeling requires the loading of the machine and possibly the stacking of labeled containers. Labeled containers may have to be physically transferred to a pallet for transport.
- High-speed dispersion or paddle mixer usage is required for product uniformity before packaging.
- Automatic packaging machine requirements are as follows:
- Assemble the filling heads to the appropriate filter cart.
- Insert the proper size filters into the filter chambers and secure.
- Move the filling heads and cart as needed.
- Secure the 2” line to the appropriate vessel and open valve.
- Flush filling heads and pump until uniform material is present. Discard if necessary or return material to vessel if possible.
- Program target weights as per the Yield Control Sheet.
- Use the vacuum lift to retrieve and stack five-gallon units
- Stage the filled material into designated areas. Use a forklift to relocate.
- Upon completion, flush the filling heads and pump with appropriate solvent.
- Clean area. This may require a forklift to discard trash, a broom to sweep or solvent to clean.
- Complete paperwork and forward to Supervisor.
- Other filling methods.
- Attach the appropriate filter to a line on the bottom of the vessel.
- Arrange a hopper to retrieve material that has passed through the filter.
- Arrange a scale below the valve of the hopper.
- After the scale accuracy has been verified, tare an appropriate empty container to receive filtered material from the hopper.
- Verify fill weights. If acceptable, continue with filling process. If not see Process Supervisor or QC Department.
- Secure lid with rubber mallet or lid crimper and box or stack.
- One-gallon units may weigh up to 14 lbs. Five-gallon units may weigh up to 75 lbs.
- Upon completion of the batch, the yield is documented on the Yield Control Sheet and the ticket is turned into the Process Supervisor.
- The vessel is to be cleaned using wash solvent and a tank brush. Used solvent is to be discarded into an appropriate satellite storage drum.
- Boxing operations requires the following:
- Label the appropriate carton.
- Assemble the box. Taping of the bottom flaps may be required.
- Load the carton with filled one-gallon units and an appropriate amount of bails.
- Tape the top flaps of the carton.
- Stack the completed cartons.
- Relocate the pallet by forklift if necessary.
- Other miscellaneous packaging duties not listed above.
- Perform duties in a safe, quality, and efficient manner.
- Take an active role in hazard recognition and injury prevention by following all safety rules & regulations and report all injuries and incidents to your supervisor.
- Follow all environmental rules and regulations to ensure hazardous materials and waste are managed in an environmentally responsible manner.
- Perform other duties as needed to support the overall mission of the facility and the company.

Physical Requirements

While performing the duties of this job, the employee must have the ability to stand for up to four hours regularly required to use hands to finger, handle or feel; reach with hands and arms; and talk or hear.
Employee may be standing/kneeling/walking on concrete for approximately 90% of the work day. Employee may also have to operate a forklift up to 10% of the day. The employee frequently is required to stand; walk; and stoop, kneel, crouch or crawl. The employee is occasionally required to sit and climb or balance. The employee must regularly lift and/or move objects over 50 pounds. The employee must have 20/20 vision, with or without correction, including full peripheral vision. Operate various warehouse equipment.
