Part-Time Emergency Medical Technician (EMT)

Overall Responsibility:

· Responds to emergency medical situations throughout the Carbon County Ambulance service area.

· On (pager) 2nd call and out of town transport call.

· Responsible for equipment, quality assurance with medical control, disaster preparedness, assistance in the field operations, and current information in applicable state rules and regulations.

Key Tasks and Responsibilities:

1. Responds to medical calls and evaluates emergency situations to determine most effective medical care; performs a variety of medical and rescue procedures including but not limited to:

a. Conducting medical and trauma assessments

b. Establishing and maintaining adequate airways

c. Controlling bleeding and splinting broken bones

d. Administering medications

e. Extricating patients

f. Provide effective communication with the patients, medical control, dispatch and other emergency services agencies

2. Attends specialized classes and training to maintain and expand skills and certifications.

3. Provides training to the public and other emergency responders.

4. Perform other duties and functions as requested or required.

Skills and Attributes:

1. Desire a high school diploma or equivalent; must be 18 years of age or older/ must possess a current EMT certification ( EMT-B, I, IA, P ), and working knowledge of an EMS system; additional certifications in related EMS field is a plus.

2. Must successfully pass a thorough background check and drug testing.

3. Must be able to clearly speak, read, and write in the English language; ability to speak, read, and write Spanish is desired.

4. Must have basic math skills; if you are certified above an EMT-B level you must be able to accurately perform drug calculations necessary to determine drug dosages and IV drip rates.

5. Must be able to operate emergency vehicle (ambulance) and must possess a valid, current Utah Drivers License and have not received in the past two years more than two moving violations; No DUI, drugs, alcohol or alcohol related reckless citations, or drivers license revocation or suspensions.

6. Desire basic computer skills

Experience Requirement:

1. None

2. Desire a working knowledge in the State Bureau of EMS, EMT-B, I, IA, P standards and protocols.

Physical Effort/Environment:

1. Must be physically able to lift up to a minimum of 75 pounds, bend, stoop, twist, turn, and climb in to and out of emergency vehicles at various accident or emergency environments.

2. When talking one must convey detailed or important instructions or ideas accurately, loudly, or quickly.

3. Able to hear average or normal conversations and receive ordinary information.

4. Average, ordinary visual acuity necessary to prepare or inspect document, or operate machinery.

5. Able to deal with very difficult concepts and complex variables.

6. Must be willing to work odd hours, daytime, nights, weekends, and holidays;

Must be willing to work in unfavorable work conditions including snow and rainstorms, excessive heat, cold and windy conditions.

· Must be highly motivated and a self-starter who seeks new and innovative methods of performing his or her duties, as well as technology and equipment to enhance emergency medical services

· Must have sound decision making ability; must be able to follow directions and complete duties in a timely manner

· Must possess strong people skills, be cooperative, and exercise professional deportment in areas of public relations

· Must be a team player who will nurture positive community relations between a variety of government, medical, and business entities

· Must have a positive attitude, willing work flexible hours and to accept on-call responsibilities as required

· Carbon County Ambulance is a paramilitary organization; dress code is strictly enforced

All Fulltime Hourly Employees will also have minimum requirements, so to maintain their fulltime employee status

Must work a minimum of 36 hours per week

Must work a minimum of 24 hours per week of 2nd call

Must take a minimum of 25 out of town transports per year

(Not counting stat transports)

Must not miss more than 2 Mega Code trainings per year
