TITLE OF POSITION: Clerk
LOCATION: Tax Claim Bureau
ASSIGNED SHIFT: 8:30 a.m. to 4:30 p.m. (7 hour day)
RATE OF PAY:
$ 18.18 per hour
Rate for AFSCME Residual Union Employee Internal Transfers shall be based on transferee’s years of service and the wage scale applicable to the position.

OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To perform general office duties and assist staff within the department.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
- Collects, issues and receipts payments from public and distributes default and reminder notices.
- Assists bureau staff by reviewing and researching property owner information, reviewing records from other county offices, and receipting payment.
- Review, process, and receipt bidder registrations for all tax sales.
- Answers phones within department, giving tax information as requested, and/or transferring to proper department or staff member.
- Must be able to understand and explain delinquent tax information, including being able to explain tax sale process.
- Create, update, and maintain files, documents and notices by scanning and inputting information into an electronic filing system and other computer software.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
- Works indoors in adequate work space, lighting, temperatures and ventilation.
- Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress, but subject to frequent disruptions.
- Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS:
- Must possess ability to accurately record, convey and present information, explain procedures, follow instructions, pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
- Must be able to sit throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing and walking, bending, twisting, stooping and reaching necessary to carry out job duties.
- Dexterity requirements range simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso as necessary to carry out job duties.
- Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of thirty-five pounds.
- Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/TRAINING:
High school diploma or equivalency.
WORK EXPERIENCE:
1-2 years working experience in an office environment or county government. Or, any acceptable combination of equivalent training and/or experience.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
- Must be able to speak and understand the English language and to follow oral and written instructions. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
- Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with public, co-workers, and others.
- Must possess ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to client information and records.
- Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers, other office equipment, and computer software.
- Must possess ability to pay close attention to details, accuracy, concentrate on work and file numerically and alphabetically.
- Must possess general knowledge of office practices and procedures.
- Must possess the ability to perform simple math calculations with accuracy and reasonable speed.
- Must possess the ability to establish and maintain an effective working relationship with staff and the general public.
