OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB:
To provide clerical and administrative support regarding payroll and personnel records; to maintain required records and to prepare reports and data as needed in accordance with all applicable policies and procedures.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/TRAINING: High School diploma or equivalent required.
WORK EXPERIENCE: 2-3 years previous working experience in payroll, preferably in a government office or human resource or accounting environment.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
1. Greets and assists general public and county employees by taking or providing information or directing them to proper locations.
2. Prepares and processes required department documents, forms and reports as required.
3. Processes and updates County payroll records and benefit accruals and coordinates data for payroll processing.
4. Updates and maintains confidential Employee History Folders.
5. Assists employees with personnel, employee benefit and payroll-related questions/inquiries.
6. Prepares reports and processes department transactions as necessary and according to set guidelines.
7. Prepares and processes reports following union guidelines and remains up to date on union agreements.
8. Processes and deposits all checks and vouchers to the correct budget and department.
9. Maintains files of countywide applicants, positions and employment-related records.
10. Maintains and updates reports and files following employee life cycles; new hires, change of status, and leaving employ.
11. Compiles data within department for completion of reports.
12. Assists department staff with special projects, reports or assignments or in administration of special department functions as requested.
13. Maintains accurate files, statistics, manuals or other department documents in accordance with policies, procedures and guidelines.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Works indoors in adequate workspace with adequate temperatures, ventilation and lighting.
2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise, stress and disruptions.
3. Normal indoor exposure to dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL/MENTAL CONDITIONS:
1. Must possess ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures, follow instructions, pay close attention to details and concentrate on work.
2. Must be able to sit for long periods throughout the workday, with intermittent periods of standing, walking, bending, twisting, reaching, stooping and grasping as necessary to carry out job duties.
3. Dexterity requirements range from simple to coordinated movements of fingers/hands; feet/legs; torso necessary to carry out job duties.
4. Sedentary work, with occasional lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of thirty-five pounds.
5. Must demonstrate emotional stability.
6. Must be able to cope with the physical and mental stress of the position.
7. Must demonstrate resourcefulness in decision making and problem solving.

9. Must possess ability to answer questions regarding County policies and procedures, and to maintain a pleasant personality and appearance in dealing with general public and others.
10. Must possess ability to learn a variety of clerical tasks related to personnel and payroll functions.
11. Must possess ability to record and transfer information accurately and to interpret policy and/or labor contracts.
12. Must possess ability to perform a variety of office procedures according to established work practices and methods.
13. Must possess knowledge of basic math skills and ability to apply to job duties in an accurate and timely manner.
