What are the responsibilities and job description for the Part Time Clerk position at Carbon County?
OVERALL OBJECTIVE OF JOB: To assist the Archivist/Records Director in maintenance, storage, retrieval, preservation and microfilming of County records.
QUALIFICATIONS:
EDUCATION/TRAINING: High School diploma or equivalent.
WORK EXPERIENCE: 6 months of work experience in the clerical field including computer experience and typing.
ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS OF JOB:
1. Prepares and microfilms County records.
2. Retrieves documents – i.e. birth, marriage, and death – as requested by public, co-workers, attorneys, title searches, etc.
3. Assists in answering inquiries regarding archives data.
4. Codes and/or cross-indexes files maintained in department.
5. Answers telephones, routes calls, takes messages and assists the public.
6. Completes clerical assignments such as typing, copying, and faxing of documents and records.
7. Maintains security procedures over archived records.
8. Corrects defective microfilm by splicing as needed.
9. Assists in maintaining and preserving County records, archives and other historical material.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS AND ABILITIES REQUIRED:
1. Must be able to speak and understand the English language in an understandable manner in order to carry out essential functions of job.
2. Must possess good communication and interpersonal skills.
3. Must possess the ability to function independently, have flexibility and the ability to work effectively with customers, co-workers, and others.
4. Must have the ability to maintain confidentiality in regard to customers and County/Court related information and records.
5. Must possess the technical knowledge of operating personal computers, microfilm machine and other office equipment with accuracy and reasonable speed.
6. Must possess general knowledge of numerical and alphabetical filing principles and practices and the ability to apply them to essential job duties.
7. Must possess knowledge of standard office practices and procedures.
WORKING CONDITIONS:
1. Works in adequate work space, lighting, temperatures and ventilation.
2. Works with average indoor exposure to noise and stress, but subject to frequent disruptions.
3. Normal exposure to indoor dust/dirt.
PHYSICAL REQUIREMENTS:
1. Must possess the ability to record, convey and present information, explain procedures and follow instructions.
2. Must be able to sit, stand and walk intermittently throughout the workday with frequent periods of climbing, carrying, overhead reaching, and grasping with occasional twisting, bending, kneeling, pushing/pulling necessary to carry out duties of job.
3. Dexterity requirements range from coordinated movements of fingers/hands for operating equipment and writing work, to simple dexterity of feet/legs; torso as necessary to carry out essential job duties.
4. Medium work with regular lifting/carrying of objects with a maximum weight of fifty pounds.
