Job Overview:
We are seeking a Director of Business Development with a strong background in sales and strategic growth, particularly within the HVAC and sustainability sectors. This individual will be in charge of developing and executing a comprehensive sales strategy, building key partnerships, and driving the adoption of Carbon Reform’s innovative solutions. The ideal candidate will have at least 5 years of experience working with Energy Service Companies (ESCOs), a proven ability to develop strategic partnerships, and an established network within the commercial real estate and development industries.
Key Responsibilities:
- Strategic Leadership: Develop and execute a comprehensive sales and business development strategy to scale Carbon Reform’s impact across the commercial real estate sector
- Partnership Development: Identify and pursue go-to-market partnerships with key industry players, including ESCOs, performance contractors, sustainability leaders, logistics companies, and facility managers.
- Sales Oversight: Manage the full sales cycle, from lead generation to closing deals, ensuring a seamless customer experience.
- Customer Relationship Building: Build and maintain strong relationships with current and prospective customers, including commercial developers and large private/public companies.
- Team Growth: Create and grow an internal sales team to support scaling efforts, providing leadership, mentorship, and process development.
- Representation: Represent Carbon Reform at industry events and conferences to build brand awareness and establish thought leadership.
- Data-Driven Insights: Provide market feedback to leadership, contributing to product development and go-to-market strategies.
- Team Collaboration: Work closely with internal teams (marketing, supply chain, R&D, operations) to align sales strategies with company goals.
- Leadership: Proven track record of leading teams or initiatives that achieved significant market impact.
Qualifications:
- Experience: 7 years of sales and business development experience in the HVAC, commercial real estate, or sustainability sectors, with at least 5 years working with ESCOs.
- Sales Expertise: Demonstrated success in introducing new products to market and managing large accounts in the energy and sustainability space.
- Team-Building Experience: Proven experience creating and growing a high-performing sales team within a company.
- Network: Verified book of business, particularly within the Mid-Atlantic and Eastern United States, including commercial developers, real estate owners, and corporate sustainability leaders.
- Knowledge: Deep understanding of commercial HVAC systems, energy efficiency technologies, and decarbonization goals.
- Skills: Strong interpersonal, negotiation, and communication skills, with the ability to influence at all levels of an organization.
- Travel: Willingness to travel as required; travel time 20% or less annually.
Preferred Qualifications:
- Startup Knowledge: Experience with or strong knowledge of startup companies, especially in the hardware space. Passion for joining and growing with a small team, and ability to work independently selling new technology without significant redundancy in the sales team.
- Energy, Sustainability, and IAQ Expertise: Experience with energy efficiency, carbon capture technology, or indoor air quality solutions.
- Certifications: Familiarity with building certification systems such as LEED, WELL, or RESET.
