Title: Lead Facility/Event Support Worker (Full-time) Dept./Div.: City Hall/Civic CenterNature of Work: This is a regular, full-time position which is responsible for overseeing the day-to-day cleaning and maintenance operations of a civic center facility, supervising a team of facility/event support workers, ensuring all cleaning tasks are completed efficiently and to a high standard, including routine cleaning, special event setups, and managing cleaning supplies and equipment while adhering to safety protocols and building guidelines. The Lead Facility/Event Support Worker is supervised by the Civic Center Manager. Supervision: Assign cleaning tasks to facility/event support worker staff based on daily schedules and priorities. Monitor the performance of facility/event support worker staff, providing feedback and coaching as needed. Address any cleaning quality issues and ensure compliance with established standards. Train new facility/event support worker staff on proper cleaning procedures and equipment usage. Cleaning Operations: Conduct thorough inspections of the Civic Center to identify cleaning needs and prioritize tasks. Oversee and perform daily cleaning activities, including sweeping, mopping, vacuuming, dusting, trash removal, and restroom sanitation. Coordinate special event cleaning and setup, including furniture arrangement, carpet protection, and post-event cleanup. Manage the cleaning of high-traffic areas, public restrooms, and common spaces. Maintenance and Inventory: Monitor cleaning equipment and supplies inventory, ordering replacements as necessary. Perform basic maintenance on cleaning equipment and report any malfunctions to appropriate personnel. Ensure proper storage and handling of cleaning chemicals according to safety guidelines. Safety and Compliance: Enforce safety procedures among facility/event support worker staff, including proper use of personal protective equipment (PPE). Report any safety hazards or facility maintenance issues to the appropriate department. Ensure compliance with local building codes and cleaning standards. Administrative Tasks: Maintain cleaning schedules and work assignments. Track cleaning supplies usage and budget. Maintain cleaning logs and documentation as required. Collaborate with facility management on cleaning projects and special event coordination. Essential Duties: Other duties include dry and wet mopping tile floors, glass cleaning (both interior and exterior); dusting, blind cleaning; cleaning and sanitation of bathrooms, including toilets, sinks, and urinals; filling/refilling of soap containers, toilet tissue, paper towels; cleaning kitchen appliances, including stove, range, ovens, refrigerators, sinks, grease traps, washing trash cans and installing plastic liners. Exterior work also includes mowing with a push-type powered mower, string trimming, snow and ice removal using shovels and scrapers, policing the grounds, and cleaning up debris and leaves. Also, perform slight equipment maintenance and repair according to the manufacturer’s literature and replace burned-out light bulbs and fluorescent tubes.On a routine or as needed basis, empty trashcans into dump cart and empty dump carts into dumpsters and clean and sanitize empty trashcans. Trash containers can be as large as 32 gallons with lids and contain sanitary napkins, diapers, paper, liquid and solid food. Work includes grasping and lifting trash containers in an appropriate and safe manner.Implement written and verbal instructions from Civic Center Managers. Set up audio-visualequipment, set up tables and chairs according to instructions. Assist clientsand staff with delivery of supplies and materials. Assist staff and clients with event set-ups.Effectively communicate with Civic Center Managers and co-workers both orally and inwriting. Interact courteously and tactfully with the general public.As assigned by the Civic Center Manager, provide access to the City Hall/Civic Center for scheduled weekend and evening events on a call-in basis by reporting to thefacility per the schedule sheet, unlocking doors to allow access to the facility by the user, disarming the security alarm, reiterating instructions to the user, departingand return at the time the event is scheduled to end, resetting the locks and security alarm.Other Duties: Perform other duties as assigned for the overall operation of the Civic Center.Work Environment: Work is performed primarily indoors but may require some outside work subjecting the employee to extreme heat/cold weather. The employee is exposed to chemicals used to clean the inside of buildings and equipment.Physical Demands: Work requires frequent physical effort such as standing, walking, bending, reaching, lifting and carrying objects of moderate weight 15-49 pounds for short durations, and operating electrical floor cleaners. Work also requires the employee to perceive and/or discriminate colors, sounds, depth, and texture.Minimum Acceptable Qualifications: High school diploma or equivalent. Proven experience in supervisory roles within a facility/event work setting. Knowledge of cleaning techniques and procedures. Verifiable custodial experience. Event experience desired. Must have and maintain a valid Illinois driver’s license. Must be able to pass a police background check and drug screening.
