Position Summary:
In a float glass manufacturing plant that runs 24/7, a Mechanical Engineer designs, installs, maintain mechanical systems, including furnaces, forming machines, conveyors, and cooling systems. Provides support to the plant's facilities, equipment, and production processes, and leads continuous improvement in the areas of quality, safety, reliability, and yield.
The ME needs to demonstrate a solid work ethic through diligent effort, availability, physical involvement, good decision making, effective troubleshooting, and completing projects that improve the facility.
The ME functions as a member of the Engineering Department and works collaboratively with maintenance and production.
Job Responsibilities Include The Following
Support manufacturing process
Specific goals and objectives will be created by the Engineering Department in areas such as these:
Track data and identify problems and opportunities for improvement in cost, safety, yield, equipment availability and reliability.
Listen, observe operations, review documentation - such as maintenance, machine, engineering, and production web logs and emails.
Estimate opportunities and forecast cost/benefits. Seek approval if warranted.
Manage design system projects (planned work)
Lead projects as assigned by Engineering Manager.
Purchase equipment and material. Integrate stand-alone equipment into the process.
Train others on equipment (planned work)
This position exists in an indoor manufacturing facility. The work environment exposes the employee to fumes, odors, mists and dusts. Position is exposed to loud noises frequently. Accident hazards can involve heavy equipment falling on the employee, severe cuts and bruises.

- Must be at least 18 years old
- Bachelor’s degree in mechanical engineering (or related engineering field.),
- Emphasis in industrial systems, industrial controls, pneumatics, power transmission, linear motion systems, CAD Software, motors, synchronous drives, basic programming on robots, basic industrial electricity.
- Know plant processes and equipment that support operations.
- 3 years' experience in mechanical engineering, preferably in glass or related manufacturing processes.
