Description

Cardinal Point Captains, Inc. (CPC) supports a dynamic U.S. Navy directorate specializing in design, research, development, testing, and evaluation of experimental watercraft for its Department of Defense clients. We provide full spectrum Operations and Maintenance support of various combatant craft, patrol boats, Special Operations Forces platforms, and coastal craft, ensuring performance and fleet readiness.

CPC is seeking an experienced and qualified individual for vessel support services to Waterfront Operations CCD, in Norfolk, VA. The selected candidate will be responsible for the preventative maintenance, service, repair, troubleshooting, and testing of marine inboard and outboard engines, as well as other mechanical systems on the vessel and supporting equipment. All work will be performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices. The technician will troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft, check the functionality of newly installed equipment, and evaluate systems' performance under actual operating conditions.

Duties and work conditions include but are not limited to :

  • Responsible for the installation, service, repair, and testing of marine inboard and outboard engines
  • All work will be performed safely in accordance with industry standards and best practices
  • The technician will troubleshoot equipment onboard naval small boats and test craft, check functionality of newly installed equipment, and evaluate systems' performance underway during actual operating conditions. Therefore, this role requires getting underway on small boats, sometimes in rough water conditions.
  • Work will be performed inside and outside enclosed buildings. Work will include sitting, standing, walking, light lifting, and reaching. Will be periodically required to be underway onboard navy small craft serving as chief engineer.

Requirements

  • High School diploma or equivalent
  • U.S. Navy, Coast Guard, OEM, or related trade school training preferred
  • Minimum of 5 years of maritime engine repair experience (Level of technician will depend on years of direct experience)
  • Demonstrated maintenance experience with Honda, Yamaha, Mercury, Evinrude, or other common industry outboard / outdrive motors; OEM Certifications highly desirable
  • Familiarity with MTU, Cummins, Caterpillar, or Steyr Diesel Engines a plus
  • Clean driving record
  • Ability to read, write and follow technical directives correctly
  • U.S. Citizenship required, and candidate must obtain a DoD Interim Secret Clearance before starting their first day on site. Must maintain clearance throughout employment.
  • Possess a valid driver's license. Must be able to be insured through Company's vehicle insurance policy while driving work / government / rental vehicles during working hours, and for the duration of your employment.
  • Physically able and conditioned to endure the rigors of serving aboard small watercraft operated at high speeds in rough water.
  • Prior service Navy Engineman, Special Boat Team mechanics, and Coast Guard SAR Station Machinery Technicians (MK) are encouraged to apply.
