The CNC machine programmer creates CNC programs, loads programs, performs setup, and operates computer numerical control machines to fabricate parts. The CNC machine programmer must be capable of setting up the machine to specifications based on prints and may be required to load parts and operate the machine, cycle the machine, and detect malfunctions in machine operations, such as worn or damaged cutting tools. This position requires clear, effective communication with co-workers in addition to a history of operating safely, being organized, and maintaining a clean work environment.
Essential Functions

- Programs machines to generate parts from blueprints and/or computer files.
- Coordinates manufacturing processes with engineering department and design teams.
- Maintains part program files, nested programs, and drop-off utilizers.
- Suggests, requests and recommends tooling for special applications and production jobs to enhance the manufacturing process.
- Transfers files to CNC machines via computer link.
- Works with supervisors and engineers to discuss department needs and requirements and recommends fast, efficient programming and manufacturing processes.
- Develops efficient programs where speed and material utilization are paramount, by combining parts and utilizing drop-offs and scrap.
- Develops programs that are versatile from one machine to another if possible.
- Develops programs that are operator friendly, requiring fewer tools and table/turret moves.
- Maintains and organizes documentation, files, and paperwork as required.

Required Education and Experience
- High School Diploma or equivalent.
Preferred Education and Experience
- Three (3) years of CNC programming experience in a manufacturing environment on similar equipment.
