River Oaks is located at 500 E University Dr., Rochester, MI 48307
Purpose: Responsible to coordinate and implement the activities program to meets the interests of the residents of the facility, while working with other members of the inter-departmental team to ensure all resident needs are met. This individual leads the Activities Assistants and reports directly to the Executive Director.
Essential Functions- Job Duties: The following duties are considered essential to the job. Qualified individuals must have the ability, with or without reasonable accommodation, to perform the following duties:
- Creates the monthly activities calendar and implements daily activities with assistance and input from residents; distributes calendars to all residents, including those who are newly admitted.
- Visits with all residents, including newly admitted residents, to find out what their activity ideas and suggestions are.
- Communicates with staff members regarding resident needs and coordinates efforts to improve programs while minimizing problematic situations.
- Adheres to all facility and governmental regulations documenting attendance, progress and all pertinent information. Maintains accurate records of activity participation, hydration, etc., utilizing the appropriate forms. Completes activity assessments for residents as needed.
- Coordinates and schedules volunteer services.
- Coordinates various outings in the community, including shopping trips, shows, and lunches/dinners.
- Maintains accurate and thorough documentation of residents’ attendance at activities.
- Maintains effective communication with families and nursing staff, in order to provide appropriate activities for residents.
- Audits supplies needed within the department. Works within the department’s budget for supplies, entertainment & labor costs.
- Updates Activities Bulletin Boards on a regular basis, including the posting of sign-up sheets for outings and trips and the making of signs to announce events and programs.
- Make appropriate announcements to residents to ensure they are aware of activities; encourages maximum resident participation in activities
- Works a flexible schedule to meet the needs of the activities department.
- Maintains employee templates and schedule in OnShift including reviewing employee request offs and posts schedule in OnShift
- All other duties as assigned by the Executive Director.
- Attend and participate in staff meetings, projects, special events, committees, and mandatory training as appropriate.
- Completes competency evaluations for training as required by the state or as assigned by their immediate supervisor, HR Director, or Executive Director.
- Participates in continuing education programs as applicable.
- Promotes and encourages successful outcomes of resident activities, both group and individual.
- Follow all applicable state regulations.
Education & Knowledge Requirements- Specific education, certification, and licensure:
- High School Diploma or equivalent
- Valid Driver’s License
- Must be at least 25 years of age.
- Current CPR & First Aide Certification
Essential Job-Related Experience/Abilities:
- Must be able to perform tasks such as reading, writing, and understanding English.
- The ability to lift, bend, stoop, push, pull or transport residents, supplies or furniture up to 50 pounds; may ask for assistance if needed.
- Must be able to sit and stand for prolonged periods of time.
- Must be able to efficiently work in a multi-task/duty environment.
- Must be organized and detail-oriented
Preferred Job-Related Experience/Abilities/Education:
- Two (2) years experience planning/organizing activity programs
- Two (2) years demonstrated knowledge of the methods and techniques of motivating the elderly
