Early Head Start Home Based Teacher
Location: Kosciusko County, IN
Hourly Rate: $22.52
Schedule: Full-time, Monday – Friday, 8:00 AM – 5:00 PM
Job Summary:
The Early Head Start Home Based Teacher is responsible for delivering high-quality services to young children, pregnant women, and families in accordance with program performance standards. This position involves providing weekly home visits to children and families, creating and delivering developmentally appropriate activities, and fostering positive relationships with parents. The Home Based Teacher will promote a nurturing environment for children’s growth, with a focus on social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development. Additionally, the role includes working closely with families to help them achieve their goals and ensure school readiness.
Primary Responsibilities:
- Home Visits: Conduct weekly 90-minute home visits (or virtual visits as necessary) to deliver comprehensive Early Head Start services, covering social, emotional, physical, and cognitive development for families with infants and toddlers.
- Curriculum Planning: Use the Parents as Teachers curriculum to plan and conduct child development activities. Assist parents in using their home environment as a learning space.
- Family Development Goals: Work with families to establish and document family development goals through Family Partnership Agreements.
- Child Development Assessment: Conduct regular screenings and assessments of children’s development and maintain accurate records in the online program.
- Health and Well-Being: Educate parents about their children’s health, including medical, dental, mental health, and nutrition. Provide resource referrals as needed.
- Parent Engagement: Encourage parental involvement in planning the curriculum, program governance, and other activities. Promote parents as their children's first and most important teachers.
- Group Activities: Attend and facilitate socialization activities and family group events.
- Transportation: Arrange or provide transportation for families to access community resources or activities as appropriate.
- Documentation: Complete documentation of home visits, socialization events, and other activities, ensuring confidentiality of family records.
- Supervision & Coaching: Participate in reflective supervision and Practice-Based Coaching with your supervisor to continually improve service delivery.
Job Qualifications:
- Minimum of 21 years of age.
- Education: AA or BA/BS degree in Early Childhood Education (ECE), or a related field with coursework equivalent to a home-based CDA credential. Candidates must obtain the Home-Based CDA credential within 18 months of hire.
- Experience: At least 1 year of experience working with families and children, preferably in an early childhood education setting.
- Skills:
- Ability to plan and implement home-based learning experiences using the Parents as Teachers curriculum.
- Demonstrated competency in promoting children's development in line with the Head Start Early Learning Outcomes Framework for children ages birth to five.
- Ability to build respectful, culturally responsive, and trusting relationships with families.
- Licenses & Certifications: Must have a valid driver's license and current auto insurance.
