What are the responsibilities and job description for the Medical Secretary position at Cardiology, P.C.?
This position is responsible for:
- Coordination of clerical activities related to assigned physicians.
- Being accessible for patient contact and facilitates communication between physician, patient and other services as necessary.
- Receiving incoming calls and addressing them appropriately, prioritizing calls effectively.
- Scheduling office appointments and providing information and/or instructions relating to any relevant procedures. Reschedules appointments when necessary.
- Scheduling procedures at direction of physician and ensuring that all documentation is prepared in advance of physician order procedures.
- Communicating effectively with other departments including Echo/ Vascular, Pacemaker/ Coumadin & Nuclear.
- Managing physician’s schedule up to twelve months in advance.
- Obtaining proper documents needed prior to releasing medical information.
- Contacting pharmacies when necessary to complete new prescriptions and refills.
- Relaying information between physician, patient, pharmacist, and patient’s primary care physician when necessary.
- Calling patients back with lab and test results as directed by physician.
- Monitoring and sorting incoming documents on an ongoing basis and training them appropriately.
- Preparing lists and reports for upcoming procedures.
- Completing necessary forms/documentation for pre-certification process when necessary.
- Verifying patient’s insurance information when necessary.
- Effectively utilizing the EMR for scheduling, messages, prescription refills, referral requests, and records releases.
- Training and mentoring new staff as needed.
Serves as back up for other positions as needed. All other duties as assigned.
Skills:
Excellent communication skills are required for this position. Moderately advanced computer skills are required. Excellent organizational skills required. Basic mathematics generally obtained in the pursuit of a high school education required. Strong medical terminology required. Ability to accurately determine blood pressure, basic vital signs preferred. Basic coding knowledge preferred. preferred.
Experience:
Two or more years of medical office or medical training required.
Education:
High School Diploma or Equivalency Required. One to two years of college level education and/or medical training preferred.
