The Role
Cardless is seeking an experienced and dynamic Compliance Officer to play a pivotal role in our growing Compliance team. This team drives the successful launch and ongoing compliance of our custom cobrand credit card programs, ensuring alignment with all applicable regulatory requirements and industry best practices.
As a Compliance Officer, you will collaborate closely with the Chief Compliance Officer to design, implement, and sustain a best-in-class compliance program tailored to our consumer and small-business lending platform. This role offers the unique opportunity to influence strategic initiatives, lead high-impact compliance efforts, and shape the future of financial innovation within a fast-paced, entrepreneurial environment.
\n- Develop, Implement, and Enhance Internal Controls: Lead the design, implementation, and continuous improvement of a robust compliance framework, ensuring alignment with regulatory expectations and organizational objectives.
- Regulatory Compliance Risk Assessment: Conduct comprehensive risk assessments to identify, assess, and mitigate compliance risks across various business lines, incorporating key insights into monitoring and testing programs.
- Monitoring and Testing Program Execution: Oversee the development, execution, and refinement of monitoring and testing plans to ensure adherence to regulatory requirements, proactively identifying gaps and recommending corrective actions.
- Leadership in Special Projects and Regulatory Change Initiatives: Drive high-impact projects, including managing cross-functional work streams, implementing new regulatory requirements, and delivering results-oriented solutions with a focus on operational excellence.
- Compliance Issue Remediation Management: Oversee investigations, complaint handling, and regulatory submissions, ensuring timely and effective remediation of identified compliance issues and gaps.
- Audit and Examination Leadership: Act as the primary liaison with auditors and regulators, leading end-to-end preparation and execution of audits and examinations, ensuring successful outcomes and continuous improvement.
- Employee Education and Training: Design and deliver targeted compliance training programs to educate and advise employees on regulatory requirements, fostering a culture of compliance and ethical conduct.
- Policy and Documentation Management: Maintain, review, and update compliance program policies, procedures, and documentation to reflect changes in regulatory frameworks and business operations.
- Data-Driven Insights and Reporting: Analyze quality assurance and trend data from Customer Support and other functions to inform reporting, support decision-making, and enhance compliance monitoring.
- Bank Partner Relationship Management: Serve as the key compliance liaison with banking partners, ensuring alignment on regulatory expectations and seamless coordination of compliance efforts.
- Cross-Functional Collaboration: Partner with product, engineering, risk/credit, and operations teams to embed compliance considerations into business processes and product development.
- Exceptional Communication Skills: Proven ability to communicate complex compliance concepts effectively to diverse audiences, including executives, bank partners, regulators, and cross-functional teams.
- Deep Expertise in Regulatory Frameworks: Comprehensive knowledge of consumer compliance laws, regulations, risks, and typologies, including but not limited to Regulation Z (TILA), ECOA/Regulation B, UDAAP, the Fair Credit Reporting Act (FCRA)/Regulation V, and CAN-SPAM.
- Credit Card and Lending Product Proficiency: Extensive experience supporting credit card or lending products, with a demonstrated ability to align compliance strategies with business objectives.
- Seasoned Compliance Leadership: 10 years of progressive experience in financial regulatory compliance, ideally within a fintech, payments, or highly regulated financial services environment, with a proven track record of driving results.
- Strategic and Operational Acumen: Strong background in leading compliance functions in fast-paced, high-growth environments, balancing long-term strategic goals with day-to-day operational demands.
- Commitment to Best Practices: Familiarity with industry-leading practices, professional standards, and emerging regulatory trends, with the ability to adapt and implement them effectively within an evolving business landscape.
