Position Summary:
Cooking Matters inspires families to make healthy, affordable food choices. We teach parents and caregivers ways to shop for and cook nutritious meals on a limited budget.
Administrators implement all aspects of the Cooking Matters educational model to provide families with enriching educational classes with hands-on cooking and interactive nutrition activities.
Duties and Responsibilities:
- Plan and deliver a variety of food skill classes at sites across El Paso County using Cooking Matters evidence-based curricula. These classes may include but are not limited to hands-on cooking classes with adults, new parents, and families; grocery store, pantry, and farmers market tours; cooking demonstrations, and occasional online programming.
- Reach yearly participation counts as determined by state partnerships.
- Create and maintain positive working relationships with community partners that serve families facing food insecurity.
- Recruit, train, and recognize volunteers to help create a quality experience for partners and participants.
- Organize transport, and care for all materials and supplies needed for classes.
- Ensure utilization and compliance of Cooking Matters gold standards and civil rights requirements in all correspondence and classes. This includes welcoming diverse audiences, using facilitated dialogue, a learner-centered focus, and evidence-based information and methods in all classes.
- Complete all local and national reporting and evaluation requirements.
- Participate in organizational and national meetings and required training sessions.
- Create weekly social media posts to share healthy messaging, upcoming events, and community resources.
- When appropriate, engage in community projects that align with our mission and support positive, long-term policy, system, and environmental changes in high-need areas of El Paso county.
Minimum Requirements:
- Knowledge and passion for healthy cooking.
- Experience teaching adults and children preferred.
- The desire to work with diverse populations, including families facing low-income challenges.
- Strong verbal and written communication skills.
- Ability to travel and work 2-3 evening or weekend shifts per week.
- A working vehicle, valid CO driver’s license, and minimum insurance levels ($100,000/$300,000/$100,000 liability coverage).
Knowledge, Skills, Abilities:
- Understanding of challenges families with low incomes face and knowledge of social service agencies and government/private food assistance programs to help with these challenges is strongly preferred.
- Proficiency in Outlook, Word, Excel, Teams and PowerPoint
- Demonstrated ability to organize, prioritize, and work under pressure.
- Ability to work independently.
- Commitment to the mission of Care and Share and Cooking Matters
- Bilingual in Spanish and English, desirable.
