Function:
The Driver position is essential for ensuring that clients are transported safely and timely to their destinations. The driver must follow all applicable government laws and regulations, make independent decisions to ensure passenger safety, and use the most direct route when appropriate. They will be responsible for vehicle safety inspections, good maintenance, and providing excellent customer service while adhering to agency policies and procedures.
Essential Job Functions:
- Client Transport:
Drive assigned agency vehicles to transport clients to and from appointments, either on fixed or express routes, or as otherwise assigned. Report any incidents or accidents immediately to supervisory personnel, and complete all necessary paperwork.
- Documentation & Paperwork:
Obtain client signatures to confirm service provision, and ensure all paperwork is accurately completed and submitted to supervisory personnel by the end of the shift.
- Vehicle Inspections:
Complete Pre and Post Inspection Forms for the assigned vehicle, documenting its condition, and submit any necessary reports.
- Passenger Safety & Assistance:
Ensure passengers follow Texas safety-belt laws and agency regulations. Assist passengers with entering and exiting the vehicle safely, providing excellent customer service.
- Report Vehicle Issues:
Report any safety concerns or problems with the assigned vehicle to the supervisor before leaving the vehicle, or immediately after any issues arise while on the road.
- Training & Compliance:
Attend training programs to ensure proficiency in safety requirements, customer service, vehicle maintenance, and agency procedures.
- Basic Vehicle Maintenance:
Perform routine maintenance to ensure vehicles are safe, clean, and in good working condition before and after shifts.
- Communication Systems:
Become proficient in using department communication systems to maintain contact while on duty.
- Additional Duties:
Perform other related tasks as assigned by supervisory personnel.
- Physical Demands:
Lift, push, and pull up to 50 lbs. or more; climb steps/stairs; sit for extended periods; kneel/squat as needed.
Essential Qualifications:
- Valid Driver’s License:
Must possess a valid Texas Driver’s License
- Large Vehicle Experience:
Experience driving large passenger vehicles is a plus but not required.
- Knowledge of Service Area:
Must be familiar with the service area and capable of reading and understanding maps to navigate to destinations.
- Availability:
Must be available to work Monday through Friday, as assigned.
- Communication Skills:
Ability to read, write, and communicate effectively both orally and in writing, ensuring understanding of agency policies and procedures, completing reports, and interacting with clients.
- Bilingual (Optional):
Bilingual skills (English and Spanish) are a plus but not required.
- Insurance Requirements:
Must meet state insurance legal requirements.
- Additional Prerequisites:
Must meet all position prerequisites as determined by contract governing this role.
