Job Title: Landscape/Softscape Maintenance Technician

Job Summary:
The Landscape/Softscape Maintenance Technician is responsible for maintaining and enhancing the aesthetic appeal of gardens, lawns, and other softscape areas. This role focuses on plant health, lawn care, and general maintenance to ensure that outdoor spaces remain beautiful and functional year-round. The ideal candidate will have experience with plant care, soil management, and seasonal maintenance tasks.

Key Responsibilities:

• Lawn and Garden Maintenance:
• Mow lawns, edge walkways, and trim hedges and shrubs to maintain a neat and tidy appearance.
• Prune, deadhead, and trim plants, shrubs, and trees to encourage healthy growth and shape.
• Apply mulch, compost, or fertilizers to improve soil health and plant vitality.
• Perform regular inspections of plants, trees, and shrubs to detect early signs of health issues.

• Seasonal Maintenance:
• Assist in seasonal clean-ups, including leaf removal, debris collection, and preparation of landscapes for changing weather conditions.
• Perform seasonal plant replacement to ensure year-round color and variety.

• Landscape Upkeep
• Maintain the overall appearance of softscape areas, including flower beds, shrubbery, and lawns.
• Replace plants or flowers as needed to ensure healthy, vibrant landscapes throughout the year.

• Client Interaction:
• Communicate with clients about maintenance needs, plant care, and progress updates.
• Provide recommendations for improving or enhancing the landscape in terms of plant health and appearance.

• Equipment Management
• Operate and maintain landscaping tools and machinery such as mowers, trimmers, blowers, and other hand tools.
• Ensure that equipment is properly cleaned, maintained, and stored when not in use.

• Safety and Compliance:
• Follow all safety protocols and industry standards when working with tools, equipment, and chemicals.
• Adhere to environmental and local regulations regarding pesticide, herbicide, and fertilizer use.

Skills & Qualifications:

• Proven experience in landscaping, horticulture, or a related field.
• Strong knowledge of plant care, soil types, and local flora.
• Experience with lawn care, garden maintenance, and general softscape upkeep.
• Ability to identify common plant diseases and pests and take appropriate action.
• Skilled in using and maintaining landscaping tools and equipment (e.g., mowers, trimmers).
• Strong attention to detail with an eye for maintaining a neat and healthy landscape.
• Ability to work independently or as part of a team.
• Excellent communication skills for interacting with clients and team members.
• Physical stamina to handle outdoor tasks in various weather conditions.

Preferred Qualifications:

• Certification in horticulture, landscaping, or a related field (e.g., Landscape Industry Certified, horticulture degree).
• Knowledge of sustainable landscaping practices and environmentally friendly pest control.
• Familiarity with the use of lawn care products such as fertilizers, weed killers, and pest control treatments.

Physical Demands:

• Ability to lift heavy objects (up to 50 lbs or more).
• Prolonged periods of walking, bending, kneeling, and standing.
• Exposure to various weather conditions, including heat, cold, and rain.
